The matchup once again brings together two teams with completely different goals. While the United States looks to extend an era of dominance that has shaped the history of women's basketball, France will try to deliver the ultimate upset and capture the first World Cup title in its history.

A year ago, the French team came within one possession of ending the American dynasty at the Olympic Games. Now, they have another opportunity on the biggest stage in international basketball.

"This is our standard here with Team USA. ... Everything that we do is going to dictate what happens in tomorrow's game," said Breanna Stewart . "There's going to be a ton of emotions in this game ... the team that really regulates that and handles that best that will have the advantage."

The United States enters the final with the mission of maintaining its reign. The team coached by Kara Lawson is seeking its fifth consecutive World Cup title and the 12th championship in program history , while France will play in its first-ever Women's World Cup final with the dream of lifting the trophy.

"Honestly, we have nothing to lose," said Marine Johannes , France's second-leading scorer behind Gabby Williams . "We know they are a great team. They have won every World Cup for years and years and they have a lot of talent, but this is just one game. We are going to fight and see what happens."

Two teams with different paths to glory

Team USA's journey to the final once again showcased its dominance. The Americans advanced through the knockout stage with authority and defeated Spain 77-67 in the semifinals to secure their place in the gold medal game.

France, meanwhile, arrives after making history by reaching its first-ever Women's World Cup final. The European team knows it faces a massive challenge, but it also enters with confidence after overcoming key moments throughout the tournament.

The championship game will feature some of the biggest stars in women's basketball today. The United States boasts players such as Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier and Angel Reese , while France will rely on the talent and leadership of Gabby Williams and Marine Johannes .

France looking to change history

Although the United States enters as the favorite due to its dominance in recent years, France believes a final can change any prediction.

"If I'm honest, we have nothing to lose," said Marine Johannes , France's second leading scorer behind Gabby Williams . "We actually know they are a great team. They won every World Cup for years and years. They're really talented. We all know that. We are playing with this kind of player actually all season in the W. We know how good they are, but again, it's one game, nothing to lose. We are going to play hard and we'll see what happens."

Beyond the gold medal, this matchup represents a battle between the powerhouse that has dominated women's basketball worldwide and a team looking to become the next great force in the sport.

The United States wants to keep its crown. France is chasing the biggest victory in its history.
