Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese ‘bury the hatchet’ with telling high five at FIBA World Cup

It lasted only a few seconds, but it said plenty about the changing relationship between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese while they chase gold together with Team USA. As Reese spoke with a reporter on camera, Clark accidentally walked straight through the interview shot, passing between Reese and the journalist and briefly blocking the camera. Clark immediately said “sorry,” but Reese showed no sign of annoyance. Instead, she subtly extended her hand as Clark passed, and Clark responded with a quick, friendly high five. The two young stars have spent years being placed on opposite sides of one of women’s basketball’s most intense rivalries. Every foul, stare and comment has been examined for evidence of tension between them. But away from the WNBA and united by the same jersey at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, Clark and Reese appear more comfortable around each other than ever before. There was nothing forced about the brief exchange just two teammates naturally acknowledging one another. They may become rivals again when they return home, but for now, Clark and Reese have put their differences aside. The goal is no longer to defeat each other. It is to defend their country together and bring the World Cup trophy back to the United States.
