Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese share the kind of moment WNBA fans had never seen before
Team USA placed its fiercest young rivals in the same unfamiliar situation

For a few seconds, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese shared a moment that surprised WNBA fans. It was something they had never seen before and something neither Clark nor Reese seemed accustomed to but the circumstances of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup brought them together in an unexpected way.
A spectator who understood exactly what was happening captured them sitting side by side on Team USA’s bench during Thursday’s FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup quarterfinal against Hungary . Sharing the same unfamiliar role allowed the two stars to experience a very different kind of interaction.
It would have been an ordinary moment between almost any other teammates. With Caitlin and Angel, however, it immediately felt completely different. The video was shared with a simple message that perfectly captured the surprise: “World peace!”
Reese leaned toward Clark and said something that made them both smile before turning their attention back to the court.

The Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream stars have found themselves in the same unusual situation throughout the tournament. Coach Kara Lawson has preferred a veteran-heavy starting lineup , forcing two of the WNBA’s brightest young stars to wait for their opportunities from the bench.
Neither has allowed that decision to diminish her impact. Clark has become Team USA’s primary playmaker, averaging seven assists per game. She opened the tournament with 14 points and 11 assists against China, added nine points and seven assists against Czechia and delivered another 10 points and nine assists in the 108-56 victory over Hungary.
Reese has offered something different but equally valuable: physical defense, energy and a relentless fight for every rebound. She has averaged 10.5 rebounds during the tournament and scored 13 points against Czechia before contributing nine points, six rebounds and three assists in the quarterfinal victory.
Their growing connection was also evident on the court against Hungary. Clark repeatedly found Reese near the basket, including a perfectly timed pass that allowed her to score just before the third-quarter buzzer.
“We’ve played against each other so many times,” Reese said after the game. “So I’m sure we know each other’s game like the back of each other’s hand.”
Clark knows where Reese wants to receive the ball , while Reese is learning when and where Clark will deliver it. Their brief laugh on the bench does not mean they have suddenly become best friends, nor does it erase their rivalry. It simply revealed a different side of a relationship usually defined by tension and competition.
Team USA will now prepare for Saturday’s semifinal after improving to 4-0 in Berlin. Clark and Reese may continue coming off the bench, but both have already shown that their very different strengths and their growing chemistry could prove essential in the fight for another World Cup gold medal.
