The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup has been contested since 1953, producing generations of champions and some of the most dominant international teams in women's basketball history.

The United States leads the all-time list with 11 titles , including four consecutive championships from 2010 through 2022. The Soviet Union is second with six, while Brazil and Australia have each won the tournament once.

The 2026 tournament is still ongoing in Berlin, with the United States facing France in the final on September 13. That means the 2022 USA team remains the most recent confirmed champion until this year's title game is completed.

Who has won the most FIBA Women's World Cups?

USA established itself as the competition's most successful nation after winning the inaugural tournament in Chile in 1953 and following that with another championship in 1957.

The Soviet Union then controlled the competition, winning five successive editions between 1959 and 1975 before adding a sixth championship in 1983.

USA returned to the top in 1979 and has dominated the modern era. Its 11 championships are nearly twice the Soviet Union's total.

Brazil produced one of the great surprises in tournament history by winning in 1994, while Australia became world champion for the first and so far only time in 2006.

USA chasing another title in 2026

The Americans entered the 2026 World Cup seeking a fifth consecutive championship and a record-extending 12th overall title.

They reached the final after beating Spain in the semifinals and will face France for the championship in Berlin.

If the USA wins, its dominance will stretch even further. A French victory, however, would add a fifth different nation to the list of Women's World Cup champions for the first time in tournament history.
