An out-of-this-world Doncic: "He's a supernova, with him we're in a spaceship"

There are players who dominate a game and others who make it seem like they’re playing a different sport . Luka Doncic belongs to the latter. His performance against the Miami Heat, with 42 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds , was yet another masterclass from a player who has turned the extraordinary into routine and who, at 27 years old, seems to have no ceiling. The NBA bows at his feet .

His is starting to escape any statistical logic. Five consecutive games scoring at least 37 points, four of them surpassing 40 , and an outrageous ease in tearing apart any defense put in front of him. Doncic scores, assists, rebounds and decides . He does it in every possible way and with a naturalness that turns every night into a spectacle. Not even the records seem to be on his level.

At the start of this season, with the Lakers off to a flying start (6-2), his MVP candidacy is already a reality . But beyond the numbers and the wins, there is something that better than anything else defines the magnitude of the Slovenian: the admiration he inspires among those who share a locker room with him and, above all, among those who suffer through his masterclasses from the other side of the court. Teammates, rivals, and coaches are left without words in the face of a player from another planet .

Luka no longer just dazzles: he inspires reverence

Because when someone like Giannis Antetokounmpo , one of the NBA's great dominators, says that Doncic is "one of the best scorers ever to play this sport, if not the best" , words are hardly necessary. His coach, JJ Redick , speaks of a "supernova"; his teammates watch his feats in disbelief and his opponents can barely find answers. Luka no longer just dazzles: he also inspires reverence .

It's fantastic to win by 20 against a team like Miami, it's really incredible. But it's not just me, it's everyone. Everyone is in the right places and shooting with confidence

He takes it as something normal, like someone who goes to the office every day and does his job: "When we win, the feeling is much better" , said the Slovenian genius after yet another masterclass. And he highlighted the Lakers' form and their last two wins at crypto.com Arena: "It's fantastic to beat a team like Miami by 20, it's really incredible, especially on back-to-back nights. But it's not just me, it's everyone. Everyone is in the right places and shooting with confidence" .

Giannis Antetokounmp o, the star signing of the Miami Heat and someone who knows from personal experience, because he has done it many times, how difficult it is to put up numbers like Doncic in the NBA, was in awe of the former Real Madrid player's display: "Obviously, he is one of the best scorers to have played this sport, if not the best . I'm not talking about now. I'm talking about all time," he said.

"Obviously, Luka is one of the best scorers to have ever played this sport, if not the best. I'm not talking about right now. I'm talking about all time. There are people who are afraid to say it, but he has to be among the best scorers in history

The Greek, one of the NBA's most prolific scorers since debuting with the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2013-14 season and now in his fourteenth season in the League, was the Heat's best player with 30 points (10/14 on two-pointers, 0/3 on three-pointers and 10/15 from the line), 12 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks , but his magnificent game was overshadowed by the Doncic cyclone, to whom he paid tribute. "I think there are people who are afraid to say it, but Luka has to be among the best scorers in history" . Miami coach Erik Spoelstra struck a similar note: "It's a huge challenge to go up against a genius like Doncic."

JJ Redick , coach of the Lakers , can't stop marveling at the spectacular performances, night after night, of his team's star, whose ability he highlights to make monstrous feats like the ones he achieved against the Heat look easy simply by repeating them over and over again. "It's like a supernova , although at the same time it seems like something normal," Redick explained. "We live in a spaceship, and we go at the speed of light all the time when he's on the court. When he's on fire, it's pick your poison, because he can make any shot. And then opponents start putting two on the ball, and everyone else benefits from that . He's a tremendous offensive engine."

Luka seems like a supernova; with him, we’re living in a spaceship, and we’re going at the speed of light all the time when he’s on the court. When he gets hot, it’s pick your poison, because he can make any shot

His teammates , privileged spectators who night after night witness Doncic 's displays from the front row or right beside him, still cannot quite grasp how easily he scores, even beating the double or triple teams that opponents sometimes throw at him. "It's crazy . It feels like practically any shot he takes, whether it's a circus shot, or a regular step-back three, or a difficult shot, is going in, it's like something unreal" , commented Los Angeles guard Quentin Grimes .

Luka is doing incredible things, and when he does that, he simply opens up the court so everyone else can play freely and with confidence

And Austin Reaves , his best partner on the court, is already at a loss for words in the face of the continuous feats of his great supporter on the Lakers: "Luka is doing incredible things, and when he does that, he simply opens up the floor so everyone else can play freely and with confidence" . Which basically means making life easier and better for everyone around him on his team. No wonder they put the Slovenian on a pedestal , as he is unanimously revered by his teammates, the fans, and his rivals.
