Bronny James admits he wants to see how Lakers treat him without LeBron around
The Lakers rookie dropped an honest admission about how he expects teammates and staff to treat him when LeBron isn't around.
Bronny James spoke to the media on Monday during the Los Angeles Lakers media day. It was his second public appearance since his father left the team in free agency this summer.
He was asked about his mindset heading into his first NBA season without sharing a locker room with LeBron .
"It's something different for sure. I'm excited for the experience, to experience something different, him not being here.
To see how the staff treats me without him being there, all my teammates, and stuff like that. I'm excited for it, and excited for the season."
His career began unlike that of any other player. He has been under intense scrutiny ever since the Lakers selected him with the 55th pick in the 2024 Draft . On opening night of the 2024-25 season , he and LeBron became the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history.
Since then, Bronny has split time between the G League and the Lakers’ main roster. Across 69 NBA games, he averages 2.7 points, 1.1 assists, and 8.1 minutes. Last season he appeared in 42 games, posting 2.9 points, 0.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 8.9 minutes per game.
He has performed better in the G League. Over two seasons he played 25 games and averaged 18.4 points, 4 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 30 minutes, shooting 49.6% from the field and 41.3% from three.
According to StatMuse, Bronny has played 21 NBA games without LeBron and in those contests averages 3.2 points, 1 rebound, and 1.8 assists.
His first official opportunity to take the floor without his father as a teammate will come on October 21 at home against the Golden State Warriors .
Father and son could still make more history. Los Angeles and Philadelphia face each other for the first time—and not by coincidence—it will be on Christmas Day .
