The Dallas Mavericks are less than a month away from tipping off their 2026-27 NBA season, a campaign generating massive expectations around Cooper Flagg . The reigning Rookie of the Year is looking to take the next leap in his development as a franchise cornerstone after being selected first overall in the 2025 Draft.

Flagg’s continued growth remains one of the most closely watched storylines in Dallas . NBA personal trainer Matt MacKenzie recently addressed the young star’s size and the impact it could have on his development.

“I haven’t put a measuring tape next to him, so I can’t confirm or deny if he’s grown in height. All I can say is he’s had one hell of an offseason. And no matter if he’s 6-9, 6-10 or 6-11, he’s going to be a problem,” MacKenzie said, according to NBA insider Marc Stein on X (formerly Twitter).

Flagg’s combination of size, athleticism, and rare mobility for a player of his height was a major reason he emerged as one of the most highly touted prospects in recent years . If he truly added inches over the summer, his physical presence could make him even more disruptive at the NBA level.

The next major step in his evolution will be developing a more consistent outside shot—one of the few areas where he struggled as a rookie. If he becomes a reliable three-point threat, defenses will have to respect him farther from the basket. That spacing would open driving lanes to the paint and enhance his effectiveness as an off-ball player, a key skill as he shares the court with Kyrie Irving .

The Mavericks officially open the new season on October 21 against the Houston Rockets , launching a campaign in which Flagg will aim to prove he is ready to become one of the league’s new faces.
