Delonte West reappears with a new smile: the change that comes after 10 months sober
The former NBA player appeared in public again with a completely renewed set of teeth and a much healthier appearance. The change comes after several months in which he has documented progress in his recovery and sobriety.
Delonte West is drawing attention again, but this time because of a very different image from the ones that worried NBA fans for years. The former point guard, 42, recently appeared in a video showing off his new smile after undergoing dental reconstruction treatment. The images quickly went viral on social media and sparked a wave of supportive messages.
The physical transformation coincides with another fact that explains why his reappearance has generated such an impact: West has been drug-free for around 10 months, according to the reports that accompanied his latest public appearances. In March, he had announced that he had reached 100 days of sobriety, so this new milestone represents another step in the process.
A dental reconstruction in the midst of his recovery
The new set of teeth is part of a restoration process aimed at addressing the deterioration of the former point guard's oral health. The most recent reports indicate that West received dental implants and that the change was visible during a recent broadcast.
For years, the former basketball player went through problems related to addiction , his mental health, financial difficulties, and periods in which he ended up living on the streets.
His diagnosis of bipolar disorder became public in 2008. The combination of those problems also ended up affecting his physical appearance and his life away from the courts.
Now, the story is told from another place. Recent images show a smiling, active West with a much healthier appearance.
The support network that never disappeared
West has also had the support of people linked to the NBA for years . Mark Cuban, then owner of the Dallas Mavericks, personally intervened in 2020 to help him enter a rehabilitation center. The help did not definitively resolve his problems, but it was part of the various attempts to support him during his most difficult moments.
LeBron James, West's teammate during their time in Cleveland, has also kept in touch with people close to the former player and has shown concern for his situation over the years. At the same time, the NBA 2K universe once again opened a professional door for him: West will return to the franchise in NBA 2K27 and, according to reports, will receive payments for the use of his name and image starting in March 2027.
Fans’ reaction to his new images has been mostly positive. Many celebrated seeing him in better shape after years of worrying news and remembered the player who went on to play nine seasons in the NBA, with stints in Boston, Seattle, Cleveland, and Dallas.
The transformation of Delonte West not only represents a physical change, but also the reflection of a profound personal renewal that has touched the heart of the basketball community. After images of his new smile went viral, social media was flooded with a huge wave of empathy, faith, and hope.
Among the thousands of messages of support, fans expressed their excitement with words such as "I'm glad to see West is doing well" and "I'm glad to see you're doing better." For many, this achievement is a reminder that redemption is always possible, as one follower summed it up in a heartfelt message of encouragement: "All glory be to God. Keep going, Delonte. Many are rooting for you. With God, all things are possible. Good luck!" These comments show that, beyond the courts, the public continues to cheer West on in the most important game of all: rebuilding his own life.
The new smile is only the visible part of a much broader process: West is trying to regain stability while moving forward, day by day, in his recovery.
