LeBron James may be preparing for the next chapter of his extraordinary NBA career, but his connection to Akron remains as strong as ever.

As the basketball icon gets ready for the new season with the Philadelphia 76ers, he continues to make an impact in the community that has been central to his life and legacy.

James ’ commitment to his hometown was highlighted again as the LeBron James Family Foundation celebrated the ninth anniversary of the I PROMISE School in Akron.

The milestone offered another reminder that, despite his demanding basketball career, James hasn’t lost sight of the young people and families who call his hometown home.

The foundation marked the occasion by sharing images of students returning to school while reflecting on the organization’s journey.

Over the past nine years, the I PROMISE School has grown into more than an educational institution, with its programs designed to support students academically while also helping their families and strengthening the wider Akron community.

The foundation emphasized that its original promise to stand behind students remains unchanged, even as the school and its surrounding programs have evolved.

LeBron’s Akron legacy continues beyond basketball

The I PROMISE School has expanded its approach over the years, incorporating athletics, family support and community-building initiatives alongside education.

Its House system and I PROMISE Athletics program are among the efforts aimed at encouraging accountability, friendship, personal growth and teamwork.

That work represents a particularly personal part of James ’ legacy. Akron is where he grew up and developed into one of basketball’s biggest stars, and he’s repeatedly used his platform to create opportunities for children in the area.

His latest involvement comes at an interesting moment in his career. James stunned basketball fans in July when he revealed that he’d decided to continue playing after initially believing his previous season could have been his last.

He ultimately chose to sign with the 76ers for his record-breaking 24th NBA season.

James explained that his decision wasn’t motivated by money or outside pressure. Instead, he said he still loves basketball, wants to compete and believes he can help Philadelphia challenge for a championship.

While his attention will soon shift toward preparing for his debut with the 76ers, his recent activity in Akron shows that his priorities extend well beyond the court.

The timing has also been a memorable one for James and his family. His wife, Savannah James , recently celebrated her 40th birthday on Aug. 27.

LeBron marked the occasion with a heartfelt social media tribute, calling Savannah his “queen” and expressing his love and appreciation for her.

As James begins another chapter in Philadelphia, his connection to Akron isn’t going anywhere. His playing career may eventually come to an end, but the work he and his family have invested in the city could remain one of the most enduring parts of his legacy.
