LeBron James' latest decision is backfiring on him: "He hates Philadelphia so much that he can't spend more than 30 seconds in the city"
LeBron James may have found the ultimate way to avoid Philadelphia traffic

LeBron James’ decision to make New York his home while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers has quickly become one of the NBA’s most talked-about storylines.
After the four-time champion was photographed returning to Manhattan by helicopter following a Sixers scrimmage, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy couldn’t resist taking a shot at him.
“This man hates Philly so much he can’t spend more than 30 seconds in the city,” Portnoy joked on X while reacting to images of James ’ unusual commute.
The reality, however, appears to be more practical than personal. James has reportedly been traveling between New York and Philadelphia by helicopter, turning a road journey that can take anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours into a trip of roughly 30 minutes.
Flight records reviewed by Front Office Sports reportedly showed the aircraft making 12 round trips between the two cities in a single week.
What adds to the story is the fact that James isn’t spending millions of his own money on transportation. His existing partnership with Fanatics includes access to the company’s corporate aviation program.
According to a representative for James , the agreement was established well before he joined the Sixers and allows him to split his time between New York and Philadelphia.
At retail rates, a one-way helicopter trip between the cities can reportedly cost somewhere between $4,000 and $10,000. If James were to use the service for every Philadelphia home game, the theoretical cost could become enormous.
However, the flights reportedly fall under his existing Fanatics agreement.
The commute may actually be about protecting James’ body
There’s another reason the unusual routine could make sense. James is preparing for his record-extending 24th NBA season while dealing with physical issues that require special attention.
ESPN has reported that the veteran is managing chronic arthritis in his left foot while continuing to deal with sciatica in his lower back.
Those concerns are particularly relevant given James ’ age and workload. He’ll turn 42 later this year, and his back problems already caused him to miss significant time last season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
He eventually returned to play 60 games, averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists.
The Sixers should also be able to reduce his workload. James will share the floor with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown , giving Philadelphia several established scoring options and potentially allowing the veteran to conserve energy throughout the season.
James ’ commitment to his new team isn’t in question as V.J. Edgecombe has noted that the veteran regularly arrives at the practice facility before his teammates, sometimes as early as 7:45 a.m.
James has also praised Philadelphia’s famously passionate supporters, describing their relationship as one based on mutual respect.
So, despite Portnoy’s joke, the helicopter commute doesn’t necessarily prove James dislikes the city, though the optics are undeniably amusing.
