LeBron James looks erratic in misleading compilation, but the full footage tells another story
A viral edit collected only the NBA legend’s worst misses
LeBron James appeared unable to buy a basket. A viral compilation showed the NBA’s all-time leading scorer missing three-pointers, hitting the side of the backboard and repeatedly watching the ball bounce violently off the rim during an offseason open run.
The footage was real, but the story it presented was incomplete. The minute-long video gathered James’ worst attempts from a session lasting approximately one hour, creating the impression that the 41-year-old struggled throughout the entire run.
The complete LeBron James video changes the story
The open run took place at Crespi Carmelite High School in Los Angeles and included several NBA players . James shared the court with DeMar DeRozan, Jaren Jackson Jr., Jalen Johnson, DeAndre Jordan, Peyton Watson, Isaiah Collier and Noah Clowney, among others.
James certainly missed some ugly shots, and the viral compilation did not need to manufacture those moments. Its misleading effect came from removing nearly everything he did well and presenting a collection of mistakes as if it represented his entire performance.
The complete footage showed the less dramatic reality: James experienced good and bad stretches but still converted more than half of his shots against NBA-level competition.
LeBron will return to an NBA court for a record-extending 24th season , beginning a new chapter with the Philadelphia 76ers after signing a two-year, $8 million contract that includes a player option for the second season.
Already the league’s all-time leading scorer, James will join Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown as he continues adding to his historic résumé and pursues a fifth championship in what he has described as the final chapter of his career.
