The Los Angeles Lakers underwent quite a major shakeup this offseason. It's not as if the whole roster got turned over, but losing an icon like LeBron James is sure to have big short-term and long-term effects.

The team's biggest move to replace James' impact was actually to think big by trading for exciting young center Walker Kessler . Some other minor additions are expected to play supporting roles, with the main beneficiaries of James' absence being Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves .

Doncic was already tasked with carrying a heavy chunk of the offensive burden last season, which he did at an MVP level. But with James' on-ball expertise no longer available, Doncic is set to dominate the flow of the Lakers offense like never before .

Luka Doncic says his NBA career is going by "too quick"

This isn't exactly a challenge for Doncic, since he did the same with the Dallas Mavericks . But it's fair to wonder if it will affect his efficiency, especially as he enters his age-28 season . Even Doncic himself couldn't help but keep it out of the back of his mind, as he was asked during Lakers media day if it truly feels like his ninth season in the NBA: " No. It goes too quick. "

It doesn't seem like too long ago that Doncic was a rising young superstar in the league. He's still just 27 years old , having entered the NBA at a very young age. But time is flying by, and Doncic's responsibilities are only growing . He'd surely like to prolong his prime a bit longer before he enters his 30s.
