Luka Doncic puts on the Lakers crown: "I'm ready"
The Slovenian accepts the challenge of taking sole command of the Los Angeles team after having shared the throne with LeBron James

The crown has already changed hands in Los Angeles . In his first Media Day as the undisputed leader of the Lakers following the departure of LeBron James , Slovenian Luka Doncic plainly embraced the challenge of leading a franchise that demands contending for everything again. "I wouldn’t say it’s different (being the Lakers’ star) . There have certainly been great names, but it’s a new challenge. I like it . I’m not saying it’s different, but I feel honored," the Slovenian stated.
'Doncic doesn't shy away from responsibility. Being the face of the Lakers, after eight years of LeBron at center stage, is a huge leap, but he approaches it with the confidence of someone who has already carried the weight of a franchise. "It's a new challenge. I've been in this position many times in my career, it's nothing new . I'm ready to face it," he stated.'
It’s a new challenge. I’ve been in this position many times in my career, it’s nothing new. I’m ready to face it
'And if there was any doubt about what the objective is in the new chapter, Doncic cleared it up immediately: the ring. "Honestly, I would say the championship. If that’s not your goal, I don’t know what you’re doing here. I would like all of us to come in to learn something new every day. On an individual level, obviously, I’d like to win the MVP someday, but that won’t come if we’re not good as a team" , he explained.'
The goal is the championship. If that’s not your goal, I don’t know what you’re doing here
'Individual ambition is therefore subordinated to collective success. Doncic also arrives after a summer of rest that has allowed him to recover and face, for the first time, a season in Los Angeles without sharing hierarchy with LeBron. "I feel good, I rested and, mentally, I feel great" , he said. The Los Angeles press has been highlighting precisely that change in leadership: the Los Angeles Times is already saying that "the crown has been passed" and places Doncic as the centerpiece on which the Lakers have built their new project.'
Luka is the best offensive player in the world
The transformation has also been recognized from within. Rob Pelinka , the Lakers' President of Operations and General Manager, has defined Doncic as "the best offensive player in the world" and has explained that the summer rebuild was designed specifically to surround him with the necessary pieces. Furthermore, before Media Day, Doncic himself had summarized his evolution in one key aspect: "Five years ago I was in my third year in the League. I wasn't the leader I was supposed to be, so I think leadership is an important part of my situation now."
