Paul Pierce's financial drama: the former NBA player who earned nearly $200 million says he is “drowning”
The Boston Celtics legend told a court that his income plummeted after he stopped receiving payments from Fox Sports and that he is now having difficulty meeting his financial obligations.

Paul Pierce is going through a complicated financial situation, at least according to the version he presented to a court amid his child support dispute. The former Boston Celtics player claims he is “financially drowning” after he stopped receiving payments from Fox Sports and while trying to meet his monthly obligations.
According to court documents, Pierce received his last payment from Fox Sports in August. The former player noted that his income had previously averaged around $119,000 per month, while in the last month he earned approximately $23,000 from stakes in other businesses.
The expenses complicating Pierce's finances
Pierce stated that he currently pays around $20,000 a month in spousal support and that his personal and family expenses total about $48,000 per month. These include about $8,000 in childcare, $5,000 in food, $7,000 in restaurants, $3,200 in utilities, $1,000 in clothing, and $3,500 in entertainment.
He also claimed to have about $300,000 in cash and properties valued at approximately $3 million .
The situation is unfolding amid his legal dispute with Princess Santiago , the mother of his son King Rafael Santiago Pierce. Santiago has requested another $40,000 in legal fees and $10,000 for a forensic accountant to review the former player's finances.
Pierce has already been ordered to pay $8,508 per month in temporary child support for his son, in addition to $100,000 for Santiago's legal fees. The support payment may be reviewed by the court as the proceedings move forward.
According to the former NBA player, the current figures contrast with the income Pierce accumulated during his 19 seasons in the NBA . The legal dispute has brought to light that the former player earned approximately $200 million in salary during his professional career.
Pierce, however, maintains that his current financial situation is very different from what it was during his years as a player. In documents filed earlier, he reported average income of about $128,000 per month in 2025 and approximately $165,000 per month during the first half of 2026. A significant portion of that income was related to Fox Sports.
The former player had previously warned that his payments linked to Fox Sports would end during this period and that this would mean a considerable reduction in his income.
Now, with those payments already over, Pierce argues before the court that he is having difficulty maintaining the level of financial obligations he faces. His financial situation has thus become one of the main points of dispute in the legal proceedings with Santiago.
