Victor Wembanyama is used to the San Antonio Spurs turning to him to solve situations on the court. This time, however, the request came from an unexpected place: one of the game’s referees.

The curious scene occurred during the third quarter of the game against the Sacramento Kings, when the ball ended up stuck on top of the backboard and play had to be stopped. Faced with the difficulty of retrieving it, one of the officials decided to turn directly to the 2.24-meter player.

The referee turned to Wembanyama to resolve an unusual situation

“Wemby, help me with this,” the referee asked the Frenchman when he realized he needed help retrieving the ball. Wembanyama responded immediately and took the long tool the court staff use to clean the parquet.

Thanks to his height and enormous reach, the Frenchman only needed a few seconds to push the ball and make it fall back onto the court.

He then handed over the utensil and returned to the game with complete naturalness , in a scene that quickly began circulating on social media.

The moment also brought smiles to the players.

Sacramento star Domantas Sabonis was seen joking with Wembanyama after the Spurs player solved the problem that had forced the game to be interrupted.

The scene ended up being just an anecdote within a great night for Wembanyama. The Frenchman finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks, two assists, and two steals in just 27 minutes, leading San Antonio on both ends of the floor.

The Spurs dominated from the start and claimed a convincing 130-103 victory, earning their first home win of the season and improving their record to 2-2. San Antonio went into halftime with an 80-54 lead and never allowed Sacramento to get close on the scoreboard.

Wembanyama ended up making 14 of his 21 field-goal attempts and threw down nine dunks, matching his personal best in a game.
