A will can be enough to establish how someone’s assets should be distributed after their death. But in Jason Collins’ case, there was something more . Inside a safe deposit box, the former player left a note addressed to his executor with very specific instructions about some of his personal belongings, making clear not only what he wanted to happen to them, but also who should receive them.

The note was written during an especially difficult period. Collins signed his will in October 2025, months before his death and after he had been diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma . Now that his estate documents have been made public, the message offers a much more private look at some of his final wishes.

What does the note include?

The note contains specific instructions regarding the distribution of his jewelry, watches, silverware, clothing, cars and other personal belongings.

Although each of these items may seem like just another possession, together they represent things Collins acquired and used throughout his life. That is why, beyond whatever monetary value they may have had, he wanted to make clear what should happen to them and who should receive them after his death .

Who did he leave his belongings to?

The documents also reveal who was included in his final wishes.

His aunt Teri was named executor of the will . If she was unable to fulfill that responsibility, the alternate executors would be her husband, Brunson Green, and his twin brother, Jarron Collins.

His parents, brother, a cousin, husband and aunt are also listed among the beneficiaries.

In that sense, the note was not solely about his belongings. It was also part of a much broader decision about the people Collins wanted to include as he organized what he would leave behind .

His final wishes went beyond his family

But before getting into all of that, one question has inevitably begun to emerge:

How much money did Jason Collins leave behind?

The documents place the value of his personal property at more than $1.8 million . There may also be other assets held in private trusts, meaning that figure does not necessarily represent the full value of his estate.
