I ndiana Fever star Aliyah Boston remains questionable for Sunday's WNBA Playoffs opener on September 27 against the Las Vegas Aces after a lower right leg issue forced her out of the regular-season finale.

Boston was removed from Indiana 's 86-66 loss to the Minnesota Lynx shortly before halftime Thursday after experiencing discomfort in her lower right leg. She did not return with head coach Stephanie White later explaining that the issue had flared up and the decision to keep her out was precautionary.

But now fans of the team have received an encouraging update as the Fever 's official injury report on Saturday listed Boston as questionable for Game 1 and she is believed to have participated in practice, meaning the door is open for her to play against the defending WNBA champions.

Boston has acknowledged that she remains day-to-day, and the latest developments suggest she is not operating at full strength – but, the lower-leg problem has affected her throughout the season, making the decision one Indiana will have to handle carefully.

Even if she is cleared to play, the Fever will need to determine how effectively she can perform while managing the lingering leg issue, and that becomes particularly significant with A'ja Wilson waiting on the other side of the matchup.

Las Vegas presents one of the toughest possible challenges for the Fever in the opening round, making Boston ’s an important element heading into Game 1 as Indiana can ill afford to jeopardize her long-term health.

But they will need a player of her caliber as they aim to reach the WNBA Finals and the signs from Saturday provide some encouragement. The final decision will depend on how her leg responds ahead of Sunday's playoff opener.

Experienced Fever player suffers season-ending injury blow

However, Indiana will already be without another important contributor after Tyasha Harris suffered a season-ending broken left fibula during the loss to the Lynx.

Harris went down in the third quarter after a layup attempt and had to be carried from the court. The 28-year-old guard averaged 4.1 points and 2.0 assists across 39 regular-season appearances, including four starts. She has played 211 WNBA games over seven seasons.

She joined Indiana in April after previously spending time with the Dallas Wings and Connecticut Sun , and her absence is expected to create additional opportunities for Raven Johnson behind All-Star guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell .

The Fever entered the finale with their playoff position still unsettled, but Minnesota quickly took control as Kayla McBride scored 22 points while making six 3-pointers, and Indiana fell behind 25-4 late in the opening quarter.

Clark finished with a season-low two points on 1-for-12 shooting as Mitchell led the team with 10 points as the Fever ultimately finished sixth at 28-16. Indiana will need their stars to step up against Wilson and the Aces .
