Angel Reese shuts down reporter after WNBA slip up
Reese made it clear she will not let anyone undermine the WNBA or what she has accomplished

A ngel Reese considers herself one of the most important faces of the WNBA and is willing to give the league the recognition she believes it deserves. After an awkward moment with a reporter in the media room, it became clear that Reese was not going to tolerate a mistake that could be seen as dismissive of the league, its players or her accomplishments .
For some, the reporter’s use of “NBA” instead of “WNBA” was a genuine mistake . For others, the issue was not the mistake itself, but t he way he tried to fix the situation after being corrected . Reese, however, kept control of the moment and made it clear who was in charge of the interview.
Reese was not letting the moment slide
The exchange happened after Reese helped the Atlanta Dream defeat the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71. A reporter congratulated her on an “NBA record” after she had just broken two WNBA rebounding records . When the mistake was addressed, the reporter tried to play it off, telling Reese she knew what he meant. Reese pushed back, pointing out that she also sets NBA records, before the reporter tried to smooth things over by saying that was exactly what he meant.
Some felt Reese went too far with her response, while others believed it was the right way to make the distinction clear . The WNBA is a women’s league, but that does not make its records or accomplishments less important than those in the NBA.
Two records, one historic night
Reese continues to break records, and while some may make fun of which records she is breaking or how she is surpassing them, she continues to embrace them. She knows her presence with the Dream and across the WNBA is making a difference, and no one will take away the accomplishments she has earned in her third professional season.
The exchange came after a historic performance in which Reese grabbed 26 rebounds , breaking Chamique Holdsclaw’s WNBA record of 24, set in 2003 with Washington. She also reached 458 rebounds on the season, surpassing A’ja Wilson’s 2024 mark of 451 to set a new WNBA single-season record.
Her response ultimately shifted the attention back to the WNBA and her record-breaking performance, making sure the league received the recognition it deserved.
