Angel Reese was already a defensive nightmare as a kid, and these clips show why

Roberto Ortega151 palabras

Long before Angel Reese earned the WNBA’s top defensive honor, she was making life difficult for opponents on youth basketball courts. A compilation of childhood footage shows an unmistakable competitive streak: blocking shots, stealing the ball and refusing to give players an easy path to the basket.

The highlights capture more than her ability to reach a shot. Young Reese stays involved in the play, pressures the ball and reacts quickly when an opportunity to take possession appears. Even at that age, defense looks like something she takes personally.

Her persistence stands out throughout the clips. She keeps contesting, reaching and moving with the action, showing early signs of the disruptive presence that would become central to her game.

The footage takes on added meaning after Reese was named the 2026 Kia WNBA Defensive Player of the Year on October 1, becoming the first Atlanta Dream player to win the award.
