Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell bring Indiana Fever's locker room closer together just before possible farewell
Indiana stars showed support for Aliyah Boston as Mitchell prepares for a potentially defining free-agency decision

The Indiana Fever walked away from their WNBA first-round loss to the Las Vegas Aces with plenty to think about, but one thing appears settled, which is the connection inside the locker room is still strong.
Indiana pushed the series to three games before falling 94-83 in the deciding matchup. A’ja Wilson finished with 36 points and 10 rebounds, while Chelsea Gray added 23 points, four rebounds and five assists.
Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 23 points. Aliyah Boston had 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Caitlin Clark added 18 points, four assists, two steals and four blocks.
A few days later, Boston offered a glimpse of how the team was processing the end of the season. “Year 4 [check],” she wrote on social media. “In all things I give thanks!”
Clark responded with a short message of support. “Proud of u!” she wrote. Mitchell followed with one of her own: “love you, 7.”
Mitchell’s free agency gives messages added weight
Those comments would normally be easy to overlook, but the timing makes them more significant.
Mitchell is set to enter unrestricted free agency and has already made it clear that she intends to prioritize what is best for her career when deciding what comes next.
She also said that having “good chemistry on and off the floor” will be part of that process. That matters because Mitchell has grown with this Fever group.
She and Boston have been teammates since Boston arrived as the No.1 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, and they have experienced Indiana’s transformation together.
The franchise went from missing the playoffs to carrying legitimate postseason expectations. Clark ’s arrival only accelerated that rise.
Fever face difficult offseason question
The next challenge is deciding how much of that core remains together. Indiana has obvious reasons to build around Clark and Boston , but Mitchell ’s situation introduces uncertainty.
She has established herself as one of the team’s most important scorers, and losing her would force the Fever to rethink the balance of their backcourt. There's also a human side to that decision.
Mitchell ’s message to Boston , along with Clark ’s response, showed that this group remains close despite the disappointment of an early playoff exit. That doesn't guarantee Mitchell will return.
It does, however, make clear that any potential departure wouldn't come because the locker room has fractured. Indiana ’s season ended with frustration against Las Vegas , but the players themselves have spent the days since emphasizing appreciation rather than disappointment.
As the Fever head into an offseason that could reshape the roster, that bond may become one of the biggest factors in determining whether this group gets another chance together.
