Caitlin Clark drops blunt verdict after Fever’s season comes to an end
The Fever star offered an honest assessment of Indiana’s elimination before quickly returning to the spotlight in Iowa City

Caitlin Clark didn’t sugarcoat the Indiana Fever’s latest playoff disappointment, but her comments after elimination also revealed a player already looking ahead.
Indiana’s season came to an end Thursday night with a 94-83 loss to the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series. The result marked the second straight season in which Las Vegas eliminated Indiana from the postseason.
A’ja Wilson once again proved difficult to contain, leading all scorers with 36 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Chelsea Gray contributed 23 points, and Jackie Young finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
The Fever received 23 points from Kelsey Mitchell , while Aliyah Boston posted 19 points and 10 rebounds. Clark added 18 points, four assists, four blocks and two steals as Indiana attempted to keep pace with the defending champions.
Despite the defeat, Clark didn’t view the game as one in which the Fever were completely outclassed.
“We were right there, and I feel like we played a ‘C’ game,” Clark said after the loss.
Clark believes the Fever had left opportunities on the table because even without playing their best basketball, Indiana remained within striking distance before Las Vegas eventually pulled away.
Clark’s postgame comments also focused on a much bigger picture, as after missing significant time the previous season, she described 2026 as the most basketball she’s played in a single year of her career.
The 24-year-old explained that she hadn’t really taken an extended break after the previous WNBA campaign, instead moving into USA Basketball commitments and preparation for the new season. She acknowledged the workload but also emphasized how rewarding the process had been.
“This is like obviously the most basketball I’ve played at any year of my career,” Clark said.
“And to be completely honest with you, I didn’t take a break when our season ended last year.
So I’ve been going for almost what a year and a half or whatever it is now because I had to prepare for USA Basketball in December and then March and getting ready for our season.
Clark quickly turns the page
Clark said the work she put in during the offseason translated into her strongest season and helped her improve across multiple areas. At the same time, she made it clear that she doesn’t believe her development is finished.
“I love the work. I love being in the gym,” Clark said, but that break didn’t keep her away from the basketball spotlight for long.
On Saturday, Clark returned to Iowa City as ESPN’s College GameDay guest picker before Iowa’s matchup with Ohio State. The former Hawkeye received a huge welcome from the home crowd and also celebrated the release of her first signature Nike basketball shoe.
Clark tossed signed pairs of the Nike Caitlin 1 into the crowd, giving several Iowa fans a memorable souvenir.
The shoe officially launched globally on October 1 and was created around three performance goals identified by Clark : a quicker first step, a faster step-back and a quicker release.
Nike says the Caitlin 1 features its Opticast upper, a forefoot Air Zoom Turbo unit and full-length Cushlon foam. The shoe launched at $140 in North America.
