Caitlin Clark faces Bri January’s aggressive gesture as fans try to decode what she yelled

Caitlin Clark was in the middle of another impressive performance when an uncomfortable exchange with Indiana Fever assistant coach Bri January suddenly drew attention. January approached Clark during a break in the action, gestured forcefully and appeared to yell something directly at the star guard.

Clark listened briefly before responding and walking away. The audio does not clearly reveal what January said, but some fans attempting to read her lips became convinced that her first words were: “Stay away from me.” That interpretation remains speculation and has not been confirmed by January, Clark or the Fever.

Fans question Bri January’s message to Caitlin Clark

The intensity of January’s gesture made the moment difficult to ignore. Social media users questioned why the assistant coach appeared so angry with Clark, particularly while the Fever guard was producing a strong all-around performance against the team with the WNBA’s best record.

Clark eventually finished with 27 points , nine assists and seven rebounds, coming close to another triple-double. Indiana defeated Minnesota 96-77 to improve to 28-15 and keep alive its hopes of securing home-court advantage in the playoffs.

January is not an unknown member of Indiana’s staff. The former Fever guard helped the franchise win the 2012 WNBA championship and now works as one of Stephanie White’s assistant coaches. She has previously been seen having intense conversations with Clark, including another timeout exchange that generated criticism from fans.

Strong communication between a coach and a superstar is normal during an important game, but the body language made this interaction appear more personal to viewers . Until either woman explains what was said, the supposed “stay away from me” message remains unverified even as the mysterious moment continues to generate questions.
