Caitlin Clark is keeping an eye on Stephanie White after a resignation and firing from Indiana Fever

Indiana has undergone a major leadership shake-up after a disappointing playoff exit, with Kelly Krauskopf stepping down and general manager Amber Cox losing her job

The Indiana Fever 's offseason has begun with a dramatic change behind the scenes, raising fresh questions about the franchise's direction and the people responsible for building a championship contender around Caitlin Clark .

On Friday, October 23, the Fever confirmed that president Kelly Krauskopf would step down, before general manager Amber Cox was fired just hours later.

The decisions mark a significant shift for an organization that entered the 2026 WNBA season hoping to turn its growing talent and popularity into a serious title challenge.

For now, head coach Stephanie White is expected to retain her position, according to sources cited by ESPN.

That leaves her facing another season with considerable expectations, while Clark and her teammates await clarity over the leadership structure that will guide their next campaign.

The timing is notable. Indiana finished the regular season with a 28-16 record, setting a new franchise high for wins, but ended up as the sixth seed in the playoffs for the third consecutive season.

The Fever then lost their first-round series against the Las Vegas Aces , falling short of the ambitions that had surrounded the team.

Cox , who joined Indiana in 2024 as general manager and chief operating officer, oversaw a combined 52-36 regular-season record across her two campaigns. Mel Raines , president and CEO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, acknowledged her contribution in a statement.

"Through her two seasons with the Fever, Amber has helped us navigate the seismic growth of both the WNBA and our franchise," Mel Raines , president and CEO of PS&E, said in a statement. "We're grateful for her contributions and wish her the very best moving forward."

Why Stephanie White's future matters to Caitlin Clark

Although White is expected to stay, the leadership changes leave the coach facing important questions about how Indiana can turn regular-season success into a deeper postseason run.

The Fever's offensive production was one of the biggest positives of 2026. Indiana averaged 96 points per game, setting a WNBA single-season scoring record, while Clark , Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston all earned All-Star recognition.

Mitchell and Clark finished second and third in regular-season scoring, respectively, with Clark also ranking second in assists.

However, the team's defensive weaknesses proved costly. Indiana allowed 90.4 points per game during the regular season, and its inability to consistently stop opponents became a concern as the playoffs approached.

The Aces ultimately ended the Fever's campaign with a 94-83 victory in Game 3 of their first-round series.

That contrast between offensive firepower and defensive inconsistency will be central to the offseason.

White must find ways to get more out of the roster, but the new front-office leadership will also have responsibility for identifying the players needed to address the team's weaknesses.

The question of who will replace Cox is therefore especially important. Indiana needs a general manager capable of building a balanced roster around Clark , rather than relying exclusively on the team's offensive strengths.

Another major issue concerns Mitchell . The veteran guard is an unrestricted free agent after an outstanding season, and her decision could have a significant impact on Indiana's plans.

Retaining her would preserve one of the league's most productive scoring partnerships with Clark ; losing her would force the Fever to find another way to replace that output.

Clark's own future is also part of the wider picture, with Indiana facing important contract decisions as it builds around its franchise star. The changes at executive level will influence how those negotiations and roster priorities are handled.

The Fever have made clear through their actions that the current direction has not delivered the results they wanted. But the departures of Krauskopf and Cox do not automatically resolve the problems that surfaced on the court.

For Clark , the immediate focus will be on returning to contention with a stronger supporting cast. For White , the challenge is to demonstrate that she can guide the team beyond another early playoff exit.

And for Indiana's next general manager, the task will be to build a roster capable of matching the franchise's ambitions.

The Fever have the star power and offensive production to compete with the league's best. Their next decisions will determine whether that potential can finally translate into a sustained postseason breakthrough.
