Caitlin Clark makes blunt statement following Fever's painful playoff elimination

Clark pointed to a late fourth-quarter review and admitted Indiana never found its best form against Las Vegas

The Indiana Fever spent most of Thursday night chasing the Las Vegas Aces , only to pull within one possession late enough to believe a comeback was still there. That is what made the ending so difficult for Caitlin Clark .

Las Vegas eventually closed out a 94-83 win in the deciding WNBA Playoff Game 3, but Clark ’s postgame assessment focused less on the final margin and more on how much Indiana left on the table.

“Just proud of our group for the way we battled and the way we fought,” Clark said. “Things didn’t really go our way tonight. We were right there, and I felt we probably played a ‘C’ game.”

One late sequence changed everything

Indiana trailed 82-80 with just over two minutes remaining when Kelsey Mitchell missed a layup, secured the offensive rebound and went back up. Officials called a foul on Mitchell and awarded possession to Las Vegas.

The Fever challenged the ruling, hoping to keep the ball and potentially tie the game, but the decision stood after review. Clark believed that sequence mattered enormously.

“If the challenge at whatever point that was, with two minutes to go, is called correctly when they go to the monitor, it’s a one-possession game, and we have the ball,” she said.

Las Vegas then created separation, turning a tight finish into a double-digit final margin.

Clark finished with 18 points on 6-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-12 from three-point range, while committing six turnovers. It was not the kind of night she would have wanted with Indiana’s season on the line.

Close without being sharp

That was ultimately Clark ’s point. Indiana hadn't played particularly well, yet the game remained within reach deep into the fourth quarter. The Fever had already shown their resilience by bouncing back from a Game 1 loss to win Game 2 and force the decider.

Thursday gave them another chance to extend their season, but Las Vegas executed better down the stretch. The defeat ended Indiana’s year at 28-16 and sent the Aces through to the semifinals.

Clark ’s comments weren't an attempt to diminish Las Vegas’ performance. They reflected the frustration of knowing Indiana did enough to remain competitive while still making too many mistakes to finish the job.

That may be the hardest part of the loss for the Fever . They weren't blown away from the opening tip. They were still close late, even with Clark struggling from the field and the offense failing to find a consistent rhythm. It wasn't enough to save its season.
