Caitlin Clark’s historic month gets overlooked as her Fever teammate takes home a major WNBA award
In August, Clark averaged 44.7 points from assists and field goals, the highest total in history

The WNBA season is on a short break due to the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Berlin until September 17, and when the action comes back it will be to determine the final standings as the eight teams that will play the playoffs are already qualified (Minnesota Lynx , Golden State Valkyries , Las Vegas Aces , Atlanta Dream , Indiana Fever , New York Liberty , Washington Mystics , and Dallas Wings ).
The other important thing to look at is the awards, and for MVP the four-time winner A'ja Wilson is the heavy favorite after being selected as the player of the month in the Western Conference for the fourth occasion in the four months of the season becoming the only player in WNBA history to sweep all Player of the Month honors in multiple seasons.
Wilson is leading the league in points ( 26.0 PPG ) for a third straight season and in August she averaged 25.0 PPG, 8.8 RPG, and 2.1 BPK with a 7-5 record for the defending champion Las Vegas squad.
Kelsey Mitchell Takes Home Eastern Conference Honors After Record-Breaking Month
The winner of the Eastern Conference was Kelsey Mitchell , who secured the honor for the second time in her career, with last month marking her first.
Kelsey is right behind the leaders in scoring at 25.0 PPG , sits first in three-point percentage at 45.5% , and throughout August posted the 3rd-highest scoring month by any player in WNBA history by averaging a blistering 28.9 PPG, 1.9 RPG, and 3.1 APG .
It was an undeniably historic stretch in which Mitchell extended her streak to 24 consecutive games scoring 20 or more points .
She and teammate Caitlin Clark have the Indiana Fever rewriting the record books as the most prolific offensive unit in WNBA history, averaging a league-high 97.0 PPG while registering a historic 19 games with 100 or more points.
Caitlin Clark's Staggering August Stat Line Overshadowed
While Mitchell is undoubtedly deserving of the accolade, an argument can be made that, much like the previous month, the league could easily have gone with Caitlin Clark .
During August, Clark became the first player to average 24.4 PPG and 9.4 APG in a single month, with her 24.4 points standing as the highest mark ever generated by a guard .
She accounted for or assisted on 44.7 points per game , which sets a new WNBA benchmark for a single month, alongside recording two games with 30+ points and 10+ assists , surpassing any other player in league history.
For the entire 2026 campaign, her unprecedented offensive production accounts for a staggering 41.4 points created per game , the highest mark in league history, complemented by 22.5 PPG (ranking third overall) and a league-leading 8.4 APG .
While she is now fully focused on international duty at the World Cup and thrilled for Mitchell's success, her historic output demands recognition as one of the most remarkable stretches the sport has ever witnessed.
