C aitlin Clark may have seen her WNBA season come to an earlier end than she wanted, but the Indiana Fever star has wasted little time finding another way to make headlines.

Clark returned to Iowa City on Saturday as a guest picker on ESPN's College GameDay, appearing alongside Pat McAfee and the rest of the show's crew before Iowa hosted Ohio State.

The former Hawkeye was back in familiar surroundings just days after Indiana was eliminated from the WNBA playoffs by the Las Vegas Aces .

Rather than simply talk college football, Clark also used the opportunity to showcase something that has been years in the making: her first signature basketball shoe with Nike.

The Nike Caitlin 1 officially launched globally on October 1, making the College GameDay appearance one of Clark's first major public opportunities to promote the sneakers following their release.

Nike describes the shoe as being designed around the qualities that define Clark's game, including her speed, shooting range and ability to change direction unpredictably.

Clark arrived in Iowa City wearing a sparkling version of the sneakers and encouraged fans to check them out. Her message was partly promotional and partly a joke directed toward McAfee , who had already tried a pair himself.

“Come on!.. I brought super sparkly… Pat said they’re even super comfortable, even if you don’t play ball, go get them,” Clark said during the segment.

McAfee had apparently already conducted his own test.

The former NFL punter revealed that he had worn the Caitlin 1s the previous night and was impressed by how they felt. His assessment became particularly entertaining when he connected the footwear to his performance on a basketball court.

“I have fat feet. I wore them last night. They were comfortable. I went down to the basketball court down there and got absolutely wet from the logo,” McAfee said during the segment.

The exchange gave Clark an easy way to highlight one of the selling points of the shoe beyond its connection to her basketball career: comfort.

Caitlin Clark has been building anticipation for the Caitlin 1

The timing of the College GameDay appearance is significant because the Caitlin 1 is no longer simply an upcoming product. It is now available to consumers, with Nike listing the shoe in the UK at £129.99, while the U.S. launch price is $140.

Nike's design places considerable emphasis on Clark's playing style. The shoe uses an Opticast upper designed to provide lightweight support, while a forefoot Air Zoom Turbo unit and Cushlon foam are intended to provide responsive cushioning.

The design also includes Clark -specific touches such as her CC logo, references to her No. 22 jersey and stacked Swoosh detailing.

Clark has also been promoting the sneakers in a much more personal way.

Before the public release, she gave pairs to her Fever teammates, turning the locker room into something of an unofficial preview for the product.

After Indiana defeated the Dallas Wings in August, Clark surprised teammates with Nike shoes that included unreleased Caitlin 1s. Tyasha Harris captured the excitement on social media, writing that “Christmas came early.”

She repeated the gesture following Team USA's gold-medal run at the FIBA Women's World Cup in September, handing out unreleased Racer Blue versions when she returned to the Fever locker room.

Makayla Timpson 's reaction became one of the memorable moments from the videos shared online: “Going global in these shoes.”

Those moments have helped create interest around the Caitlin 1 without relying exclusively on traditional advertising. Having Clark's teammates receive and react to the shoes gives fans a glimpse of the product in a genuine basketball environment.

That is particularly useful for a first signature shoe, because the Caitlin 1 is more than another piece of Clark merchandise.

It represents a significant milestone in her relationship with Nike and places her among a relatively small group of active basketball players with their own signature footwear.

The release also comes at an interesting point in Clark's career.

Her 2026 WNBA season ended in the first round when the Fever fell 94-83 to the Aces in Game 3. Clark finished that game with 18 points, while A'ja Wilson produced 36 points and 10 rebounds to send Las Vegas through to the semifinals.

Yet the end of Indiana's campaign has not stopped Clark's momentum away from the court. Her College GameDay appearance brought her back to the place where her national profile first exploded, while the launch of the Caitlin 1 gives her another major platform outside the WNBA.

And McAfee's reaction only added to the fun.

Whether the Caitlin 1 can become a long-term success will ultimately depend on how basketball players respond to it, but Clark has already given Nike plenty of attention around its launch.

For now, her playful exchange with McAfee has provided another piece of publicity for a shoe that is designed to reflect exactly how Clark wants her game to be remembered: fast, confident and willing to shoot from anywhere.
