Craze for the Nike Caitlin 1 ‘Jinx’ sneakers: Caitlin Clark's warning in limited-access sale

The release of Caitlin Clark ’s first signature sneaker took an unusual turn on Halloween weekend, as Nike restricted access to the Caitlin 1 Jinx edition and left most fans hoping for an invitation but the WNBA ace has a pointed warning for anyone trying to secure a pair.

The limited-edition colorway went on sale on October 30 through Nike ’s Exclusive Access system on the SNKRS app but rather than opening purchases to everyone, the company selected a limited number of members.

Creating frustration among collectors and basketball fans who had followed the release rumors for weeks with demand high, the Jinx quickly became one of the most talked-about sneaker drops of the Halloween season and is priced at $140.

Its restricted availability added to speculation about resale prices, with demand building around a shoe that combines the Indiana Fever star's personal story with seasonal details and performance features.

The name comes from a black cat that was part of Clark ’s childhood, and Nike incorporated that inspiration throughout the design as cat’s eyes appear on the tongue, while a witch graphic features on the insole.

Green accents and glow-in-the-dark elements give the shoe its Halloween identity and Clark also played along with the mystery in Nike ’s promotional campaign, suggesting that the shoes might glow when the lights go out.

“Good luck trying to get them,” Clark also quipped, indicating she is well aware of the demand for the sneaker whilst her comments added another layer to the launch, encouraging fans to discover the details for themselves.

Clark continues to deepen Nike collaboration

The Jinx arrives after Nike introduced the original Caitlin 1 , Clark ’s debut signature basketball shoe after the company unveiled that model on September 14, with its global release following on October 1 through Nike.com and selected retailers.

China received an earlier launch on September 24 and the shoe was developed around three priorities Clark identified for her game: a quicker first step, a faster step-back and a quicker release when shooting under pressure.

Its construction combines a lightweight Nike Opticast upper, Air Zoom Turbo cushioning in the forefoot and a Cushlon foam midsole whilst the Halloween edition builds on that foundation with a black mesh upper, metallic green detailing and shades of Ghost Green and Mint Foam .

Those elements, including the glow-in-the-dark accents, distinguish the Jinx from the original release as Clark ’s signature line continues to bloom and is the result of a partnership that began when she joined Nike as an athlete in 2022.

The relationship expanded in August 2025, when the company named her a signature athlete and introduced a personal logo built around two interlocking Cs whilst the collection also extended into apparel, with an 18-piece range featuring performance clothing and everyday sportswear.

Aero-FIT pieces were designed to improve cooling, while Standard Issue Stretch brought the brand’s basketball styling into women’s apparel.
