Dream and Valkyries Leave Court During Anthem Again, Putting WNBA Rule Under Scrutiny

Valeria Sosa98 palabras

Players from the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries left the court just before the national anthem at Game 2 of the WNBA Finals. They returned moments after Alanis Morissette finished performing. It was the second straight game both teams were absent.

The WNBA rulebook says players, coaches and trainers should stand along the sidelines or foul line during the anthem.

But the league suspended its anthem protocols in 2017, and teams have often gone to the locker room beforehand. The rule’s application to teams already off the court remains unclear, and the WNBA has not immediately commented.

Stephen Curry showed up to support the hometown team during the WNBA Finals, but his presence wasn’t enough to help the Golden State Valkyries avoid a loss to the Atlanta Dream. Still, the Warriors star continued to show his support, offering words of encouragement to Gabby Williams after Game 2. Curry was also was seen passing his love for basketball on to his daughter, Ryan, who embraced the moment and showed her own energy on camera while cheering for the home team. There is still plenty of work ahead for the Valkyries, and having the Curry family behind them could provide a boost as they look to bounce back.
