Is Caitlin Clark burning out? The Fever star makes a concerning confession amid the losing streak

Indiana’s superstar admits fatigue is affecting the entire team as the Fever enter the final stretch of the regular season

C aitlin Clark has acknowledged that fatigue is becoming a reality for the Indiana Fever as they navigate a demanding stretch of the WNBA schedule, but the superstar does not want tired legs to become an excuse for the team's recent struggles.

Indiana suffered its second consecutive defeat on Saturday, falling 109-102 to the New York Liberty at Barclays Center.

The loss came just days after the Fever were beaten 91-85 by the Dallas Wings, extending a difficult portion of a five-game road trip.

Clark was productive against New York, finishing with 21 points, four rebounds and seven assists while continuing to serve as the primary creator for the Fever. Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 25 points, while Aliyah Boston added 22.

Makayla Timpson and Sophie Cunningham also reached double figures with 10 points apiece.

Despite the result, Clark refused to point toward Indiana's schedule as the reason for the defeat.

“There’s no excuses,” she said. “Yeah, our schedule’s tough. And I think we play more back-to-backs than just about anybody in the league. But it is what it is.”

That assessment is particularly relevant with the Fever facing another quick turnaround. Indiana was scheduled to travel to Chicago to face the Sky on the second night of a back-to-back, leaving little time for the players to recover from the physical demands of the Liberty game.

Caitlin Clark delivers blunt message on Fever fatigue

Clark did not pretend that the demanding schedule was having no effect on the team. Instead, she admitted that tiredness and soreness are being felt throughout the roster.

“Yeah, everybody’s tired,” Clark acknowledged. “Everybody’s sore. Who cares? Figure out a way to make yourself feel better and suit up and go play.”

The comments provide an insight into the physical challenge facing Indiana at a crucial point of the season. The Fever have already secured their place in the playoffs for the third consecutive season, but their position in the standings remains important with the postseason approaching.

Indiana dropped to 24-14 following the defeat to New York and remained the No. 5 seed with six games left. That means every remaining contest carries significance as teams jockey for playoff positioning.

Clark nevertheless tried to frame the immediate challenge positively, rather than dwelling on the consecutive defeats.

“Chicago’s playing really good basketball,” she continued. “I think for us, you have to look at it in a positive way. We’re coming off of a loss. It’s a great opportunity for us to go and finish this road trip with a win. That’s how I see it.”

The matchup with Chicago also carries an additional layer of intrigue because it represents the first meeting between the two teams since an incident involving Cunningham and Sky forward DiJonai Carrington .

During their previous encounter, Carrington attempted to challenge Cunningham on a breakaway layup but made contact with her face. The incident resulted in a Flagrant Foul 2 and added considerable tension to the matchup.

Carrington has subsequently indicated that she is looking forward to the next meeting, adding another storyline to an already demanding game for the Fever.

For Clark , however, the immediate priority is simply getting through a grueling stretch of the schedule.

The Fever are already guaranteed postseason basketball, but their recent losses demonstrate that reaching the playoffs and entering them in strong form are two very different challenges.

Clark's admission that “everybody’s tired” is therefore worth noting, but it does not necessarily indicate that she or the Fever are falling apart. Instead, it highlights the reality of a long WNBA season, particularly for a team still fighting for the best possible position heading into the postseason.
