Paige Bueckers gives a chilly welcome towings Megan Rapinoe and fans have theories
One brief interaction was enough to get fans reading between the lines
P aige Bueckers is someone whose expressions can often tell their own story , and one of her latest reactions has fans wondering if there was more behind it than what was immediately visible. The moment came before the Dallas Wings game, when former soccer star Megan Rapinoe was introduced as one of the special guests.
Rapinoe was clearly excited to be at the game and was treated like the star she is, but that enthusiasm did not appear to be shared by everyone. When she approached Bueckers to greet her, Paige made very little effort to even turn toward her, making the interaction noticeably awkward.
Fans immediately noticed the difference in their reactions
Rapinoe was hyping up the crowd and banging the drum when she tapped Bueckers from behind. Paige turned around, gave her a polite but slightly stiff smile, and quickly looked away. Her reaction appeared far less enthusiastic than Rapinoe's, especially given how much the former soccer star has represented women's sports.
That was enough for fans to start developing their own theories . Many connected Bueckers' reaction to Rapinoe's past relationship with WNBA legend Sue Bird, with some joking that Paige had already chosen a side in the former couple's split. Rapinoe and Bird were engaged for years before their relationship ended in April.
Rapinoe has also spoken out about coverage surrounding Bueckers
The interaction also brought attention to Rapinoe's connection to Bueckers beyond her relationship with Bird . On A Touch More , Rapinoe previously criticized traditional sports media coverage after an inappropriate relationship-focused question was directed at Bueckers' Dallas Wings teammate Azzi Fudd during a team press availability.
That history added another layer for fans analyzing the brief exchange, even though Bueckers has not publicly explained her reaction. For now, the moment remains a short interaction that fans interpreted in very different ways.
