Sophie Cunningham has a dream business partner, but her big plan sounds more like a vacation

Her dream venture sounds more like a permanent vacation

S ophie Cunningham already seems to be thinking about life beyond basketball, but her dream business might not involve much actual work. The Indiana Fever star was asked which WNBA player she would choose as a business partner, and she needed little time to settle on one very famous former teammate.

Cunningham picked WNBA legend Diana Taurasi, whom she played alongside for six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury. Her reason, however, quickly turned the hypothetical business pitch into something closer to the ultimate vacation plan.

“I’d probably go Diana Taurasi because she has the finances,” Cunningham joked during an interview with Front Office Sports. She then imagined their “business” taking place on a yacht or boat, somewhere on a lake or the ocean, with drinks flowing and plenty of time to work on a tan all, importantly, on Taurasi’s budget.

The answer was clearly playful, but Cunningham knew exactly whom she was choosing. Taurasi spent 20 seasons in the WNBA and also enjoyed an enormously successful international career, including lucrative years playing overseas, making her joke about the basketball icon having the money to fund their luxurious venture even better.

Cunningham, meanwhile, is building an increasingly valuable profile of her own. Her popularity has exploded away from the court, opening opportunities in endorsements, media and potentially other ventures that could become even more important whenever her playing career comes to an end.

So perhaps Cunningham really does have the beginnings of a post-WNBA business plan. There is just one question left after hearing the details: does she actually want to start a company with Diana Taurasi or simply make sure she is always on vacation with her?
