Sophie Cunningham’s coffee TikTok “points a finger” at A’ja Wilson before Fever-Aces Game 3
Her joke about pointing and an “according to the rule book” caption add to the conversation surrounding Wilson’s confrontation with a Fever fan

Sophie Cunningham had something to say about pointing fingers while sipping her morning coffee. In a September 30 TikTok captioned “according to the rule book…..,” the Indiana Fever guard joked about a “comeback year for the point.” After A’ja Wilson’s confrontation with a pointing Fever fan the night before, the timing suggests an apparent jab at the Aces star, although Cunningham never mentions her by name.
“Not trying to be dramatic at all, like, seriously,” Cunningham begins, before mentioning her coffee and delivering the line about pointing. “Who would have ever thought?” she adds. The joke also recalls Cunningham’s own viral pointing moment involving DeWanna Bonner earlier in the season, giving followers another reason to recognize the reference.
Why Sophie Cunningham’s pointing joke brings A’ja Wilson’s clash back into focus
Cunningham was involved in the play that preceded Wilson’s confrontation. With just over four minutes remaining in Game 2 on September 29, she was called for a foul after the players tangled up. Wilson then approached a spectator near the baseline who had pointed in her direction.
Teammates and staff intervened, and Wilson received a technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct. The fan was temporarily escorted away from his seat before being allowed to return.
Wilson later described the fan’s actions as unacceptable and apologized to her teammates for the technical. The Fever, however, said arena security spoke with the spectator and witnesses and determined that he had not violated the Fan Code of Conduct.
Those differing assessments kept the incident in the conversation after the game: Wilson defended her reaction, while Indiana said it considered the matter closed.
Cunningham’s rulebook caption adds an officiating angle to the joke, but it does not establish that Wilson should have been suspended or that another punishment is coming. In the postgame pool report, crew chief Randy Richardson explained that Wilson’s technical was for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Cunningham does not identify a specific rule in her TikTok, leaving viewers to connect her caption and pointing remark with the confrontation.
The teams meet again in Las Vegas for the deciding Game 3 on Thursday, October 1 . Indiana’s 99-89 victory tied the first-round series at 1-1, with Caitlin Clark contributing 27 points and 15 assists. A semifinal spot is at stake.
