Sophie Cunningham's future with Caitlin Clark could abruptly end as Fever shakeup unfolds
The Indiana Fever could be making wholesale roster changes heading into the 2027 season.

They didn't quite take the quantum leap many analysts envisioned, but the Indiana Fever had a very solid season in 2026. They finished 28-16 and second in the Eastern Conference , but they just so happened to run into WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces in the first round of the playoffs.
Still, there were plenty of positive signs for the future. Caitlin Clark took another step in her superstar development, while Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston were their usual impactful selves. No one else truly stood out, though. Sophie Cunningham played the fourth-most minutes per game for the team, but she fully accepted a bench role.
Cunningham played in 43 games, but started just three of them. Practically all of her numbers, including minutes per game, went down from the 2025 season. With that in mind, and a major shakeup in the organization's front office, there are real questions about whether Cunningham will continue with the team .
Sophie Cunningham breaks silence on Indiana Fever front office upheaval
Cunningham finally broke her silence on the front office upheaval, speaking about team president Kelly Krauskopf resigning and general manager Amber Cox being fired. In her comments, Cunningham sounded almost as if she has already put the Fever in the rearview mirror.
There was not a lot of warning, and that’s okay. I think that’s probably a good thing that you kind of keep it in-house a little bit. But you know what? Kelly and Amber, they’re phenomenal, phenomenal people. They cared a lot about us as players and as individuals outside the court. And so I have nothing but great things to say about them. Hopefully the Fever come in and bring people who can do a really good job for that program. I was blessed to be under Kelly and Amber, and I hope them the very best, and so we’ll see what happens.
Instead of saying "we", Cunningham opted to speak about the Fever in third person . It appears likely that Cunningham could test the free agency waters, which would lead to Clark losing her enforcer and a very good friend within the locker room.
