Angel Reese’s first appearance in the WNBA Finals ended in heartbreak, but the Atlanta Dream star has found herself dealing with another wave of criticism after Dave Portnoy took aim at her following the championship defeat.

The Barstool Sports founder, a longtime critic of Reese and outspoken Caitlin Clark supporter, wasted little time reacting to Atlanta’s Game 7 loss. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Portnoy shared a compilation featuring some of Reese’s missed shots and mistakes throughout the Finals.

“Yoooo….who made this video?” Portnoy wrote alongside the footage, adding that Reese was “0-1 lifetime in WNBA Finals.”

The compilation featured clips of Reese discussing her championship ambitions and displaying her confidence during games. Those moments were followed by footage of missed attempts, turnovers and air balls, creating a video that quickly attracted attention following Atlanta’s defeat.

The criticism came after the Golden State Valkyries defeated the Dream 68-63 on Halloween, securing the championship in a decisive seventh game. Atlanta had managed to extend the series after forcing Game 7, but couldn't complete its comeback and fell just short of lifting the trophy.

Reese finished the deciding contest with eight points, 12 rebounds, one assist and two blocks. Although she had delivered impressive performances earlier in the series, her offensive production declined during several important games.

The forward recorded double-doubles in each of the first three Finals contests, helping Atlanta establish an early advantage.

However, she struggled to maintain that scoring consistency in Games 4 and 5. She bounced back during Game 6 with 15 points and 14 rebounds before another difficult offensive outing in the championship decider.

Portnoy's latest comments also brought renewed attention to the rivalry between Reese and Clark , which dates back to their college basketball careers. Reese's LSU team defeated Clark's Iowa squad in the 2023 NCAA championship game, and their competitive relationship has continued to attract considerable attention in the WNBA.

Portnoy has repeatedly criticized Reese over her performances and on-court behavior. However, the Dream forward hasn't allowed the latest criticism to overshadow her ambitions.

Almost a day after the defeat, Reese addressed the heartbreaking result through an Instagram post, reflecting on her season and expressing pride in what Atlanta had accomplished.

“Every loss is a lesson,” Reese wrote, explaining that sometimes the answer isn't no, but simply not yet. She concluded her message with a determined statement: “Delayed, not denied. Trust me, I'm HUNGRY for more.”

Her boyfriend, NBA player Wendell Carter Jr. , also showed his support in the comments section, leaving two encouraging messages: “You will prevail” and “Just getting started.”

Reese also addressed the team's future during her postgame media session, making it clear that she believes Atlanta can return to championship contention.

“It is tough in the moment, but we'll be back,” she said, reiterating her belief that the opportunity to win a title hasn't disappeared.

The Finals loss was undoubtedly a disappointing ending, but Reese remains determined to use the experience as motivation. With another season ahead, the Dream will have time to regroup, evaluate their shortcomings and prepare for another championship challenge.
