Caitlin Clark expressed her disbelief at one of the most unexpected moments of the Women’s Basketball World Cup final. With Team USA on its way to victory over France, the Indiana Fever star received a technical foul that left her completely bewildered.

The episode takes on special significance because the Indiana Fever guard had already accumulated several technical fouls during the WNBA season. One of them was later rescinded by the league, avoiding an automatic suspension.

The sanction was Clark's first technical foul during the tournament

The Team USA star received a technical foul against France and could not hide her disbelief. The situation occurred in the fourth quarter, when United States was leading 73-57. Clark had just been called for an offensive foul and, after the whistle, remained holding the ball in her hands.

The decision took the player by surprise, and she immediately turned toward the referees with an expression of disbelief. According to the match footage, Clark repeated the same question with her lips: “For what?” , making it clear that she did not understand the reason for the penalty.

At first it seemed like she was going to slam it against the floor out of frustration, but in the end she did not and handed it to the referee. Even so, the officials decided to penalize her with a technical foul.

This was the first technical foul she received during the World Cup, and it did not end up having a decisive impact on the final result.

The United States came back from a 14-point deficit and defeated France 97-79 to claim its fifth consecutive World Cup and twelfth in history, and at the time of the incident it was already on a considerable sale,

Clark contributed 12 points and three assists, including a decisive three-pointer near the end of the first half that allowed the Americans to go into the break trailing by only two points. Breanna Stewart was Team USA’s leading scorer with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Thus Caitlin's team won the gold medal for the fifth consecutive year and the NBA star celebrated alongside her teammates.

The technical foul episode, however, remained one of the most striking scenes of the night. As the United States moved toward celebrating the title, Clark was still trying to understand a refereeing decision that, judging by her reaction, she clearly did not expect.
