It's official: The post- Lionel Messi era has begun for the Argentina national team. It's a moment no one wanted to see ever come, but there are no surprises this time around. Manager Lionel Scaloni released his squad list for the team's upcoming friendlies, with Messi the most hurtful absence.

Argentina will play against Uruguay and Costa Rica during the next international break, with the games slated for November 13 and November 17, respectively. It's a step up in competition following friendly matches against Bolivia , Burkina Faso , and Benin during the last window.

With a rivalry match on tap against Uruguay, many wondered if Scaloni would stick to his usual suspects, but he has instead chosen to start revolutionizing the national team squad . It's not just Messi that's missing from the new squad; there are other high-profile names that haven't been included .

Rodrigo De Paul and Gio Lo Celso the biggest omissions in the post-Lionel Messi era for Argentina

The biggest standout omissions are Rodrigo De Paul , Giovani Lo Celso , and Nico Gonzalez . They are three players who have been there alongside Messi and Scaloni for a very long time. Lo Celso and Gonzalez, in particular, haven't exactly been fan favorites. De Paul's form has fallen quite dramatically since joining Inter Miami , as well.

Other notable admissions aren't due to Scaloni's tastes. Lautaro Martinez is currently injured and Cristian Romero is still recovering from an injury of his own. Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina are suspended and can't participate yet.

With so many familiar names not present, the time has come for young players like Nico Paz , Matias Soule , Franco Mastantuono , Valentin Barco , and more to make their presence felt and mark the beginning of a new era for Argentina.
