Mexican golden boy Gilberto Mora turns 18: "His transfer to Europe is imminent"
The Aztec midfielder comes of age today, having already broken many records

We at MARCA have written a lot about Gilberto Mora . And today, the day the "kid" turns 18 , it could be no different. The Xolos de Tijuana player (currently sidelined with a hip injury) comes of age with the whole country watching him and having already broken many records in football.
His transfer to Europe is imminent , maintain those close to him. In Mexico, in fact, there has been speculation for months about his possible future in La Liga (Madrid or Barça); the Bundesliga (Dortmund); or the Premier League (Liverpool).
His records are incredible . At 17 years and 347 days old, Mora became the youngest footballer to score for Mexico's senior national team. And he did it wearing the number 10 shirt. No one had worn it for Mexico at such a young age before.
His professional debut came on August 18, 2024, with Xolos de Tijuana. He was 15 years and 308 days old and became the third-youngest footballer ever to debut in Liga MX. O nly Víctor Mañón (15 years, seven months and three days) and Martín Galván (15 years, eight months and 26 days) are ahead of him. Shortly afterwards, at 15 years and 320 days old, he became the youngest player to start and score in a local league match.
"Gil" is a regular for "El Tri". He already made world history by becoming the youngest player to win an official international tournament with a senior national team . At 16 years and 265 days old, he won the 2025 Gold Cup, surpassing the historic precocity records of Pelé (1958 World Cup at age 17) and Lamine Yamal (Euro 2024 at 17 years and 1 day).
In addition, he is the y oungest player to debut for Mexico (16 years and 257 days) and to provide an assist in the aforementioned Gold Cup (16 years and 261 days).
At the 2026 World Cup, he was the youngest player in the tournament, making his debut at 17 years and 240 days old, becoming the sixth-youngest player in history to take part in a World Cup. Only Norman Whiteside (Northern Ireland), Eto"o (Cameroon), Opabunmi (Nigeria), Olembe (Cameroon) and Pelé (Brazil) had appeared in a World Cup at a younger age before.
And then, at 17 years and 259 days old, he became the second-youngest footballer ever to start a World Cup knockout match, behind only Pelé in 1958. He is breaking all records.
In June, Xolos announced Mora's contract renewal for three seasons with a release clause of around 25 million euros. But he won't be there much longer. It's something imminent... in January?
