There was a time, not too long ago, where criticism of sports teams and athletes came slowly and deliberately. It could have been a section in a newspaper or a long-winded blog article that painted someone in a negative light.

Criticism was still criticism, but it certainly wasn't as prevalent years ago as it is now . With social media becoming massive and only growing, every little thing an athlete does comes under a microscope. Every second of every game is a chance for engagement and clicks.

Many athletes are fed up with that idea, and Luis Suarez is one of them. The legendary striker is currently in the twilight of his career, soon to hang up his cleats with Inter Miami likely being his last destination. Suarez obviously isn't the same player he used to be, but he's still scoring goals at a solid pace.

Luis Suarez hates how Inter Miami and his teammates get treated by haters

He helped Miami win the MLS Cup last season, and has played a big role in the team currently sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference . None of that is enough for many fans, though, with criticism raining down on both him and the team in recent weeks .

Annoyed with how the haters are coming out in droves, Suarez has hit back hard and pointed out the hypocrisy of many during a recent press conference ; not only towards him and the team, but also towards Lionel Messi .

Social media nowadays does a lot of damage. Maybe tomorrow we lose the final and they'll say, 'Ah, another final lost by Messi, Suarez, De Paul, Inter Miami. Another final they lose with great players.' But if we win, it's 'that trophy means nothing'. It's the same when you score three goals. You score three goals, 'Ah, it's easy to score goals in MLS'... But if you don't score in two straight games, 'Uh, this player is a disaster'... Nowadays, criticism is what most sells, always.

Inter Miami will take on Cruz Azul on Wednesday night for the Campeones Cup . It's a chance for the MLS team to add another trophy to their cabinet.
