Who is Cristian "Kily" Gonzalez, Lionel Messi's new manager at Inter Miami?
Inter Miami are set to appoint a fourth-consecutive Argentinian manager amidst a brutal five-game stretch.
It was bound to happen after a truly brutal five-game stretch: Inter Miami are making a switch at manager . Guillermo Hoyos , who took over once Javier Mascherano resigned in April, had looked out of his depth as of late.
Coming in to replace Hoyos will reportedly be Cristian Gonzalez , who's known more as "Kily" Gonzalez . Miami are hoping Gonzalez can turn things around right before the MLS Playoffs begin. Superstar team captain Lionel Messi has played extremely well since returning from mourning his father's death in Argentina, but the rest of the team has struggled mightily .
Kily Gonzalez has known Lionel Messi for a long time
Just as with the last three managers, all born in Argentina, Gonzalez has a personal link to Messi . Both Gonzalez and Messi were born in Rosario , and they actually spent time together on the Argentina national team for two qualifying matches ahead of the 2006 FIFA World Cup .
Back in 2022, right after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup , Gonzalez greeted Messi and Angel Di Maria when both arrived to Rosario . They also took part together in Maxi Rodriguez 's farewell match in the city.
Gonzalez doesn't necessarily have the strongest managerial resume. He spent under two years with both Rosario Central and Union Santa Fe . His most recent sting, with Platense , lasted just 132 days.
Platense : 2 wins, 5 draws, 7 losses
Union Santa Fe : 25 wins, 25 draws, 27 losses
Rosario Central : 25 wins, 14 draws, 29 losses
Miami is hoping he brings something different to Inter.
