The grand finale did not disappoint. The market closed at a record pace... in the Premier League . Definitely, the English league plays in another league of its own. With different rules.

Manchester City 's final push allowed the Premier League to break its all-time transfer spending record for the second consecutive summer. The 3.582 billion invested a year ago are already old news. The English league surpassed the 3.7 billion mark. Pending the final count, it comfortably exceeded the 3.286 billion euros accumulated by Serie A (1.160), the Bundesliga (783.8), LaLiga (738.03) and Ligue 1 (605.1) combined.

No wonder. As many as 12 teams have made the most expensive signing in their history this summer: Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford, Leeds, Fulham, Coventry, Ipswich, Nottingham Forest and Hull.

City had already spent 311 million on Elliot Anderson (135), Bouaddi (37.5), Allan (37.5), Detourbet (25), Monga (11.7), Rulli (3.5) and Pierce Charles (3.5).

However, he saved a trick for the end. In one fell swoop, he paid Everton 70 million for Iliman Ndiaye and reached an agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of Enzo Fernández . “Thank you for everything. You will always be in my heart,” he said on Instagram as a farewell.

The Argentine will leave Stamford Bridge as the most expensive transfer in Premier League history. He matches the 145 million that Liverpool paid Newcastle last summer for Isak.

Also worth highlighting are the signings of Matías Fernández Pardo (Lille) by Newcastle for 60 million and Aston Villa's late push under Unai Emery, who paid 55.5 million to PSG for Mbaye and 29.2 million to Southampton for Harwood-Bellis. As well as Mudryk's loan move to Tottenham and the signing of Manuel Ángel, who joins Gonzalo and Palacios at Arbeloa's Fulham.

The close of the transfer window leaves some curious reflections. The sale of Enzo Fernández makes Chelsea the team that has brought in the most money (436.15) from transfers . No one had ever sold for such a high amount.

City is also the team that has spent the most (456). They surpassed Chelsea (406.7) in extremis after Monaco broke off its agreement with the Blues over the transfer of Lamine Camara, to Xabi Alonso's annoyance. The historical record set by Liverpool (481) a year ago still stands.

Until then, the sales of Rogers, Konsa, Watkins, Tielemans... had made Villa the summer's top sellers with 360.25 million in transfer fees.

The biggest surplus, paradoxical as it may seem, belongs to Paris Saint-Germain . Luis Enrique's side have only spent 152 million on Akliouche (50), Ferran (48.5), Godts (45), Digne (7) and Ayari (1.5). By contrast, they have sold players worth 334.3 million, including Barcola, Gonçalo Ramos, Mbaye, Kolo Muani, Kang-in Lee... A balance that leaves a positive net of 182.3 million.

Juve stole the spotlight in Italy. The Old Lady signed Pape Matar Sarr (Tottenham) with an obligatory purchase option and Woltemade (Newcastle) on loan. The Senegalese arrives with an obligatory purchase option worth 27.5 million. Meanwhile, the German target man (1.98 meters) will return to St. James' Park.

Cesc Fàbregas also received a double gift. He strengthened the goalkeeping position with the loan of Spaniard Robert Sánchez (Chelsea) and put the cherry on top of the attack with Moise Kean. They will pay close to 40 million to Fiorentina, who strengthened with Gnonto (Leeds), Beto (Everton) and Pedro Gonçalves (Sporting). The arrival of Robinho's son at Genoa from Santos was also a surprise.

The Bundesliga continues to bet on young talent. Ethan Nwaneri (Arsenal) joined Borussia Dortmund on loan. Bayer Leverkusen, for their part, announced the return of Diaby (Al Ittihad) and the signing of Guéla Doué -Désiré's brother- from Strasbourg for 30 million.

" Marc Guiu will also try his luck in Germany. Leipzig, who also signed Neil El Aynaoui (Roma), paid Chelsea 15 million for the former Barcelona striker.

The market close also produced some exotic moves far from the major leagues. Paco Jémez will be a head coach again after his spell at West Ham as Nuno's assistant. The former Rayo man will manage Morocco's Raja Casablanca .

Robert Moreno, also has reason to celebrate. The former Spain national team manager will coach South Korea. He will serve as interim manager with the hope of remaining on the Taegeuk Warriors' bench for the 2027 Asian Cup.
