Real Madrid defender handed DUI conviction after blowing nearly four times the legal limit
It happened in August during summer vacation in Spain

Raúl Asencio , a Real Madrid defender, has been convicted of drunk driving in the south of Gran Canaria fifteen days ago.
'According to " Atlántico Hoy ", on August 16 the footballer (injured but in preseason since July 13) was stopped at a routine checkpoint in the south of Gran Canaria while driving his car, a Porsche, in a leisure area (he did not have an accident nor was he driving recklessly), and registered an alcohol level that almost quadrupled the maximum permitted , 0.90 mg/l of alcohol, when the maximum rate is 0.25% , so he was convicted of committing an offense against road safety (once 0.60 mg/l is exceeded, the administrative infraction becomes a criminal offense against road safety).'
Asencio almost quadruples the legal alcohol limit
Asencio, who accepted the sentence, was convicted three days later, on August 19, in a fast-track trial held in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. He was given a fine of 14,400 euros (four months at a daily rate of 120 euros) and his driving licence was suspended for eight months.
In this case, the proceedings for the road safety offense were resolved following the fast-track trial. The ruling establishes a financial penalty and the deprivation of the right to drive for the period set by the court.
Another legal front for Asencio
The footballer will face trial starting tomorrow and over the course of three sessions (September 3, 4 and 7) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria together with three other former players from the white club -Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez and Andrés García-, on provisional charges of two counts of disclosure of secrets, crimes against privacy and, in addition, one count of distribution of child pornography, for which the Prosecutor's Office is seeking two years, six months and one day in prison and a fine.
The player did not participate either in the acts or in the recording but did in an alleged crime of distributing images. The Prosecutor’s Office was open to withdrawing the accusation if the footballer apologized to the victims at trial. The injured parties accepted those apologies before a notary and have received the corresponding compensation , but it has not been possible to close the case against Asencio before trial, since it is semi-public, so the evidence has to be examined at the hearing.
