Kai Trump has faced online criticism over her lifestyle as a freshman at the University of Miami , with her luxury accommodation, expensive beauty purchases and federal security detail drawing attention.

The 19-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump lives in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment off campus and has described the challenges of balancing university life with her golf commitments and the security arrangements surrounding her.

Her spending has also attracted scrutiny after she shared a Sephora shopping haul worth $531.79, with the 16 products including items from luxury beauty brands such as Dior , YSL Beauty , Charlotte Tilbury and Hourglass , alongside Summer Fridays .

Trump has said her university routine revolves around golf, workouts and attending classes rather than Miami 's nightlife, suggesting she is focused on achieving success in her career before anything else.

“I'm here for golf. I'm not here to party in Miami,” Trump said, as her security arrangements present another obstacle to an ordinary college experience. She has acknowledged that having protection makes it difficult to move around freely, though.

She also drives approximately 80 minutes to her family's home in Jupiter, Florida , and has said she has not spent a weekend in Miami – and her use of the Krak app, which offers 2% cashback, has also featured in the discussion surrounding her spending and student lifestyle.

Trump set to remove 500 trees for golfing redesign

Away from the debate surrounding his granddaughter's college life, President Trump is facing scrutiny over plans to redesign East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C. , where more than 500 trees are included in removal proposals.

The National Park Service has outlined plans involving 169 trees initially, followed by a further 90, but the agency has said healthy trees will not be removed, including historic cherry trees, and described the work as part of an effort to restore the course's historic character and improve views.

The 106-year-old public golf course will remain open during the work, although some holes are expected to close temporarily.

The plans have nevertheless prompted concerns about the future of the site and how the redevelopment could affect public access.

The DC Preservation League and other groups have filed a lawsuit challenging the reconstruction, arguing that the project conflicts with an 1897 congressional act.

Their concerns include the legal basis for the work, continued public access and the costs involved whilst Trump wants to turn the course into a championship-level venue capable of hosting PGA tournaments.
