$81 billion fortune, one growing estate: Julia Koch’s latest Hamptons move
The purchase is said to be part of a broader effort to create a long-term family retreat for her three children

B illionaire philanthropist Julia Koch is reportedly expanding her presence in one of the most exclusive real estate markets in the United States, adding another multimillion-dollar property to what has been described as a growing family compound in Southampton, New York.
According to a recent report from Page Six, Koch's latest acquisition is a $33.5 million plot located near her existing holdings on Meadow Lane, the ultra-wealthy oceanfront stretch often referred to as " Billionaire Lane." The purchase is said to be part of a broader effort to create a long-term family retreat for her three children.
The expansion further strengthens Koch's already significant real estate portfolio in the Hamptons. Her Southampton holdings currently include two properties on Meadow Lane. One is an $18 million mansion, while the other is a sprawling estate she purchased in 2022 for approximately $75 million.
Restoration efforts remain in the early planning stages
That larger property has drawn particular attention because of its scale and potential. Described as a 22,000-square-foot Tudor-style home with 15 bedrooms and roughly 500 feet of beachfront, the estate has reportedly required extensive renovation work. Sources familiar with the project told the New York Post that the goal is to modernize the property while preserving its status as one of the premier residences along the East Coast.
A neighboring property owner told the outlet that the estate had fallen into disrepair before Koch acquired it. According to the report, restoration efforts remain in the early planning stages, and a complete transformation could take years to complete.
The Hamptons purchase represents only a small fraction of Koch's vast wealth. With an estimated net worth of $81.2 billion, she ranks as the second-richest woman in the United States. Her fortune stems largely from her late husband David Koch's stake in Koch Industries , one of the largest privately held companies in the world.
Her influence extends well beyond finance
Since David Koch's death in 2019, Julia Koc h has maintained a relatively low public profile despite overseeing one of America's largest fortunes. Unlike many billionaires who frequently appear at high-profile events, Koch has made only limited appearances on New York's social circuit in recent years.
Her influence, however, extends well beyond finance and philanthropy. Koch has developed a reputation for investing heavily in architecture, preservation, and design. Previous projects have included a reported $40 million Upper East Side townhouse , where she enlisted acclaimed designer Peter Marino to oversee renovations. She was also recognized with the Ballinger Award in 2008 for restoration work connected to a Palm Beach property.
The latest Hamptons acquisition reflects a growing trend among ultra-wealthy Americans who are assembling large multi-property estates designed to accommodate future generations. Many billionaires are purchasing neighboring lots and homes to create private compounds that offer security, flexibility, and long-term family planning.
