Bruce Campbell reveals how many years he has left to live after cancer diagnosis

The Evil Dead actor spoke for the first time about a particularly difficult figure.

B ruce Campbell has spent much of his career bringing characters to life who have managed to captivate audiences with their stories and who, on more than one occasion, seemed capable of facing just about anything. This time, however, it was his own life that led him to speak about a completely different reality. The 68-year-old actor, best known worldwide for playing Ash Williams in The Evil Dead , revealed his prognosis after being diagnosed with cancer.

The confession came during his appearance on The Adam Carolla Show , where a conversation about his illness turned into a particularly difficult moment to hear. Campbell explained that he has been given a five-year prognosis, and when the host asked him directly whether that meant he had five years to live, his response was brief: “Give or take.”

Bruce Campbell had already spoken about his diagnosis

The news does not come completely out of nowhere. In March 2026, Campbell publicly revealed that he was undergoing cancer treatment, although he has since chosen to keep the specific type of cancer he has private.

At the time, the actor made it clear that he had no intention of turning his diagnosis into a medical explanation for the public. That decision remained unchanged during his most recent conversation , when he once again spoke about the consequences of the illness without revealing exactly which type of cancer he is facing.

What he did decide to share this time was much more personal: the life expectancy his doctors had given him. And while the five-year figure may sound especially difficult, Campbell did not present it as a reason to put his life on hold.

Bruce Campbell's response says a lot about how he is facing the illness

After hearing his own prognosis, the actor explained that he has made a very specific decision about how he wants to approach the process: “I've decided to live with it, not die from it.”

The statement sums up a mindset Campbell showed again days later , when he used social media to address his cancer once more, saying that he had already said enough about the subject and needed to get back to “the business of living.”

That is particularly significant in his case. Bruce Campbell is not an actor who has stepped away from public life: for decades, he has remained connected to film and television, from his work as Ash Williams to appearances in productions such as the Spider-Man trilogy , Burn Notice, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Bruce Campbell still has work ahead of him

His career has not come to a halt following his diagnosis, either. Campbell remains connected to the The Evil Dead universe and has continued developing his own projects, making his recent comments about his health even more significant.

Now, after revealing that his prognosis is around five years and explaining that he prefers to focus on living with the illness rather than thinking about dying from it, the actor also appears to have drawn a line around how much he wants to share publicly.
