Carrot Top is awake and breathing on his own after a sextortion plot allegedly led him to attempt suicide
Scott Thompson is showing signs of improvement in a Las Vegas hospital as his family asks for privacy and an ongoing legal dispute surrounding an alleged extortion attempt draws attention

C arrot Top is awake, breathing without assistance and continuing to recover in a Las Vegas hospital, according to a new update from his representative.
The comedian, whose real name is Scott Thompson , 61, has remained hospitalized since Friday after what has been reported as a suicide attempt.
His condition has now improved enough for him to interact with medical staff and read messages sent by supporters, offering a more encouraging development after several difficult days.
A representative for Thompson told TMZ that the comedian remains under close medical supervision while surrounded by family and people close to him.
" Scott remains hospitalized and under close medical care. He is now awake, breathing on his own and continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him."
The representative also said Thompson has continued to show the sense of humor that has defined his decades-long career, even while receiving treatment.
The update comes as fans have flooded the comedian with messages of support. According to his representative, some of those messages have included personal accounts from people who say Carrot Top 's comedy helped them during difficult periods in their own lives.
"Hearing those stories and feeling that support has meant a great deal to him during his recovery. Scott and his family remain deeply grateful for the extraordinary kindness and continue to ask that his privacy be respected."
Thompson's hospitalization has also forced him to step away from the Las Vegas stage. His performances at the Luxor Hotel and Casino scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Monday were canceled while he remains under medical care. TMZ reported that his next scheduled performance was Wednesday, although his immediate return to the stage remained uncertain.
Carrot Top has maintained his long-running Luxor residency since 2005, making the cancellations a significant interruption to one of the most established comedy runs on the Las Vegas Strip.
People previously reported that the Friday performance was canceled after Thompson was hospitalized.
The legal dispute surrounding the alleged sextortion attempt
The comedian's health crisis has unfolded alongside a contentious legal dispute involving Brian Evans , a musician who has been accused by Thompson's legal team of attempting to extort him over a sexually explicit recording.
According to a September 3 court filing cited by TMZ, Thompson's lawyer alleged that Evans threatened to place a sexually explicit recording involving the comedian into a public court docket unless Thompson paid $500,000 to resolve claims against him.
The allegation has not been established as a court finding, and Evans has strongly disputed the characterization. In comments reported by TMZ, Evans said the recording had already been deleted under an earlier settlement and denied threatening to release it: “I never threatened - ever - to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement. … The video they are discussing - as I made very clear - was deleted a long time ago in accordance with the prior settlement."
The legal dispute therefore remains separate from the medical update, and there has been no independent finding establishing that the alleged extortion attempt caused Thompson's reported suicide attempt.
The timing of the two events has nevertheless drawn attention because the legal filing emerged shortly before Thompson was hospitalized.
For now, the focus remains on Thompson's recovery.
His representative said he has been able to joke with members of the medical staff caring for him, while also taking time to read messages from fans.
That response is consistent with the public persona he has developed throughout a career built around physical comedy, elaborate props and an ability to turn unusual situations into entertainment.
His family has continued to request privacy as he receives treatment, while supporters have used social media to express concern and encouragement.
The latest update does not provide a timetable for Thompson's discharge or return to performing. His canceled Luxor shows demonstrate that his health will take priority over his regular performance schedule in the immediate future.
For the comedian and his longtime audience, the latest news provides a more positive development after an alarming weekend: Thompson remains hospitalized, but he is awake, breathing on his own and, according to his representative, continuing to improve.
