H aley Kalil has won a major courtroom battle against her ex-husband Matt , with a judge dismissing the former NFL player's lawsuit over intimate comments she made about their failed marriage. The ruling closes the latest chapter in a legal dispute that began after Haley publicly discussed her divorce, including remarks about her former husband’s anatomy and their private life.

A judge ruled Thursday, September 17 , that Haley ’s comments were of “legitimate public concern,” citing her life, marriage and divorce and the public status of both former spouses. The decision followed Matt ’s January lawsuit, in which the former Minnesota Vikings player accused her of “invasive commentary” and said her Twitch livestream had made it harder for him to stay out of the public eye. He alleged that Haley “implied that the size of Plaintiff’s genitalia was a primary factor in the parties’ divorce and claimed that sexual intercourse with Plaintiff would leave her ‘in tears.’” Haley ’s legal team argued that she was speaking about her own experiences and that both former spouses were public figures. The judge agreed the subject had a legitimate public dimension. The court acknowledged that Haley ’s remarks were “certainly crude,” but found they were made while she was “describing the ‘trauma’ she suffered during her marriage.” “In short,” the motion reads. “Haley was discussing her life, not Matt’s, and the law generally protects a person’s speech about herself, even though such speech inevitably reveals details about others.”

Haley reacts to courtroom victory over Matt

Haley made the comments during a Twitch livestream with streamer Marlon Garcia , where the former Sports Illustrated model discussed her nearly seven-year marriage to Matt . He filed his civil suit on January 6 , alleging the livestream brought unwanted attention to him and his family. He said relatives faced continued circulation of what he called deeply personal statements. Haley filed her motion to dismiss on January 23 , asking the court to throw out Matt ’s unjust enrichment and invasion of privacy claims. Her attorneys argued that her comments were protected speech. The judge ultimately dismissed the complaint without needing to resolve Haley ’s additional First Amendment argument. “I am so relieved this is over,” Haley told TMZ. “I never wanted to be in a courtroom discussing matters of my own life. “I think this ruling is important and I hope it encourages women everywhere to speak openly about what they've been through. Your story belongs to you and you shouldn’t fear sharing it.” Matt ’s attorney said the legal team plans to appeal the decision but for now, Haley has emerged victorious.
