Actress Hunter Schafer , known for her role in the series " Euphoria ," has revealed that she underwent gender-affirming genital surgery in December. In an interview with Elle magazine , the performer shared how she experienced this process and how her relationship with her body and identity has changed. " I underwent genital surgery in December 2025, which was incredible and I love it ," she stated.

The American model also explained that for a long time she tried to accept her body and explore an identity that transcended traditional gender categories. " For a long time I have accepted the part of me that transcends gender categories and I really wanted to try to make my previous body work for me, because I thought there was something very interesting and groundbreaking about it ," Hunter Schafer recalled.

However, over time she understood that this way of understanding herself did not fit with how she wanted to live and present herself to others. The procedure was an important step in that personal journey, although the recovery lasted until early 2026. During that period, she needed to remain lying down for long stretches and even rented a spacious apartment so she could receive visits from her loved ones.

His process of personal acceptance

In the interview, Hunter Schafer also reflected on the evolution of her identity and on how her view of gender has become simpler and more defined over time. " I am a woman, I am a girl ," she stated when speaking about how she currently identifies.

The LGBT activist has described this journey as a process of self-discovery and has defended the importance of being able to live her identity without it completely determining how others perceive her.

Her desire not to be pigeonholed in Hollywood

Beyond her personal experience, Hunter Schafer has spoken about how she wants to approach her professional future. The actress has pointed out on other occasions that she does not want her status as a trans woman to eclipse her work as an actress, nor for this circumstance to limit the characters she can play. " I have worked incredibly hard to get to where I am, after going through very tough moments in my transition, and now I just want to be a girl and move forward with that ," she stated.

Hunter Schafer has also acknowledged that she has not received too many offers to play trans characters. Therefore, she wants her career to develop beyond this type of role and to prevent her gender identity from becoming the main criterion when defining her professional opportunities.

Known internationally for her work on "Euphoria," in which she plays Jules Vaughn, the New Jersey actress thus asserts her right to decide how to tell her own story and to continue building a career in which her acting talent plays a central role.
