The price tag reflects more than the property's famous former owner

A Florida estate once owned by Mexican music icon Juan Gabriel has returned to the luxury real estate market with a $38.9 million asking price — more than 30 times what the legendary singer paid for the property in 1995. Located at 13920 Stirling Road in Southwest Ranches, west of Fort Lauderdale, the sprawling compound covers 9.69 acres and features eight bedrooms, 11 full bathrooms, two half-bathrooms and six separate buildings. The property was listed Oct. 7, 2026, offering a striking example of how a celebrity-owned home can evolve into an ultra-luxury estate.

Juan Gabriel, whose real name was Alberto Aguilera Valadez, purchased the property for $1.275 million when his career was already making him one of the most recognizable Mexican performers in the world. The estate has since undergone extensive renovations and was sold for $9 million in June 2022.

Its current asking price is $29.9 million higher than that transaction, representing an increase of approximately 332%. But the price tag reflects more than the property's famous former owner. The current compound includes a professional-style indoor basketball facility, a private wellness center, a movie theater, two swimming pools and a collection of recreational amenities that make it resemble a private resort.

Inside the 9.69-acre estate

The estate offers approximately 23,442 square feet of space spread across six buildings, with separate areas for living, entertaining, sports and relaxation. The main residence has five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Two ground-floor bedrooms feature separate entrances and living areas, while the upstairs primary suite includes a breakfast bar, refrigerator, separate bathrooms and closets, and a balcony overlooking the grounds.

The kitchen is outfitted with high-end appliances from brands including Miele, Viking, Dacor and Liebherr. Additional accommodations include a three-bedroom guesthouse, bringing the property's total to eight bedrooms. The compound also includes a garage with space for four vehicles and lift capacity for up to eight.

Hurricane-impact windows and doors provide an additional practical feature for a property in South Florida , where severe storms are an important consideration for homeowners. A 10,500-square-foot basketball facility is among its standout features

A private resort with a wellness center and movie theater

One of the property's most unusual attractions is its approximately 10,500-square-foot indoor basketball facility. According to Hoodline, the air-conditioned building features professional athletic flooring, locker rooms, a viewing balcony, conference space and a smoothie bar. The facility is currently used by a nonprofit basketball program.

Listing agent Angeline Earnest told the Miami Herald that the current owners, a sports-oriented family, added many of the recreational amenities for their children. The basketball complex is only part of the property's athletic offerings. The grounds also feature outdoor basketball facilities and a hockey area, giving the estate a range of sports spaces rarely found in a private residence.

The additional facilities help explain why the property is being marketed as more than a traditional luxury home. Its appeal extends to buyers seeking a private compound with room for family activities, guests and specialized recreational pursuits. The compound's other buildings offer a variety of entertainment and wellness amenities.

A separate clubhouse features a bar, movie theater and gaming stations. The wellness building includes a sauna, steam room, cold plunge, massage room and tanning bed. Outside, two swimming pools, a tiki pavilion and a koi pond contribute to the property's resort-style atmosphere. Landscaped grounds and walking paths provide additional space for outdoor recreation.

The garage's vehicle-lift system is another notable feature, particularly for collectors who need room for an extensive automobile collection. Southwest Ranches is known for its spacious residential properties, open land and equestrian character.

Located west of Fort Lauderdale , the town offers a different environment from the densely developed waterfront neighborhoods commonly associated with South Florida's luxury real estate market . For prospective buyers, the combination of privacy, acreage and specialized facilities is a central part of the property's appeal.
