J.Lo stuns without makeup, details 'empty nest' transition after twins leave for college

Jennifer Lopez is embracing a major life change with the everyday rituals that have long helped her stay grounded.

The 57-year-old singer, actress and entrepreneur recently appeared makeup-free in a video shared through her JLo Beauty brand, giving fans an unfiltered look at her complexion while opening up about an emotional new chapter in her life.

Lopez is now navigating the reality of becoming an empty nester as her 18-year-old twins, Max and Oskar , prepare to begin college. The children, whom she shares with former husband Marc Anthony, have been at the center of Lopez’s world for nearly two decades, making their departure a particularly meaningful milestone for the devoted mother.

In her beauty video, Lopez explained that she’d been thinking about routines while preparing for her children to leave home.

“I was just about to start my skincare routine, and I was thinking about routines because my kids are going away to college,” said Lopez .

Skincare represents more than maintaining Lopez’s appearance. She described familiar daily habits as something that can provide stability when life feels uncertain. Along with taking care of her skin, she identified exercise as another important part of her routine.

The star also encouraged her followers to continue looking after themselves during difficult or transitional periods.

A new chapter beyond motherhood

Lopez’s reflections on her children leaving home come amid a period of considerable personal change. Her divorce from Ben Affleck was finalized in January 2025, following their high-profile marriage and subsequent split.

She has since spoken about an emotional experience involving her father, David Lopez , that helped her gain a different perspective on her relationships and the difficult period she was experiencing.

While watching the Brazilian film I’m Still Here with her father, Lopez became emotional as she thought about her children, her relationship with her dad and events in her own life.

"I said, 'Dads are so important.' And he just kind of came over to me and grabbed my face and said, 'I love you. I always loved you.' And that kind of changed my life in that moment,” said Lopez .

"(It) healed a part of me that needed to be healed to kind of move on from that part of my life and from those types of relationships in my life. So that movie changed me and helped me grow."

Her commitment to skincare also remains closely connected to her professional identity. Lopez launched JLo Beauty on January 1, 2021, transforming her long-discussed approach to skincare into a commercial brand centered on products designed to support a healthy-looking complexion.

Now, as Max and Oskar step into adulthood, Lopez is facing a different kind of transformation.
