American actor Michael Douglas revealed in his new memoir that he had a romantic relationship with Kathleen Turner, his co-star in ‘Romancing the Stone,’ and confessed that they decided to keep the romance secret for four decades, according to People.

The two-time Oscar winner detailed in an episode of his autobiography ‘One Helluva Ride’, which goes on sale next October 6, how the two fell in love during the filming of the hit 1984 movie in Mexico.

'In some excerpts shared by the specialized magazine, the 82-year-old actor stated that he liked Turner instantly and that they were attracted to each other "immediately".'

At that moment, Douglas was separating from his first wife, Diandra Douglas. Although he went to film in Mexico while still married, the couple were leading separate romantic lives, according to what he says.

"The chemistry I had with Kathleen Turner was so strong that, for years, the public was convinced that we were having a romantic relationship while we were filming the movie. We both denied it during ‘Romancing the Stone’, ‘Jewel of the Nile’ (‘The Jewel of the Nile’), ‘War of the Roses’ (‘The War of the Roses’) and even during the promotion of ‘The Kominsky Method’ (‘The Kominsky Method’) a few years ago," reads an excerpt from the book shared by People.

Both Hollywood stars shared the screen in all of these productions.

'“The official version was as follows: Yes, we admit it, we had incredible chemistry. Yes, we were both, as Kathleen said, ‘terrible flirts,’ and yes, we were both tempted, but nothing ever happened between us. That was a lie. It was a lie to protect my wife and my son, a lie we told the world for 40 years,” according to another excerpt.'

Douglas was also the producer of ‘Romancing the Stone’, released in 1984, where the two first met, which is about New York romance novelist Joan Wilder (Turner), who rescues her sister from her kidnappers in Colombia with the help of the handsome adventurer Jack Colton (Douglas). The film had a sequel, Jewel of the Nile, the following year.
